Pacman Cabaret to Arkanoid Conversion - YUP THAT's RIGHT!

I've been wanting an Arkanoid (and a couple other games) for a while and am almost out of space in my arcade. The solution - Cabarets. I can fit 3 cabarets in the space that 2 full size uprights take. I picked up this trashed and gutted Pacman cabaret up earlier this year. It has water damage that go's 8" up one side on the bottom. The floor is shot. I figure it's a perfect candidate for the project. Today, I chopped the water damage off of the bottom:

It rained until early afternoon, so I got a late start. I chopped the water damage off of the bottom:

Been there done many like that. now i just make new cabs. much easier.lol. but, i understand the passion of repairing them. done over 80+ over 20+ years. good luck. following this to see your progress.

I started dowel joining the bottom 8" of the cabinet together. 1st the front panel:

Right after doing that, I got a call from my powder coater saying that that stuff that I dropped off 2 weeks ago was finished and ready for pick up. So I picked it up!

I'll be welding "slugs" in the control panel holes. Then I'll be drilling new holes with a hole saw. I'm waiting for the custom CPO that I ordered to plot that out.

Made some progress tonight before it got dark. I removed the ratty original woodgrain vinyl. I trimmed the new bottom side pieces that I dowel jouned. I cut and added a new rear bottom lower cabinet piecem then cut a new floor and put that in. I cut 3/4 x 3/4 bracing and added that to the cabinet for added structure. Finally, I added the 1st coat of Bondo to the joined edge.

I normally dislike when a cabaret is turned into something else but after all this work, you have earned the right to turn this into anything you want. Great job

Thanks! I just realized that I need the lower bezel retainer. The metal piece that go's above the control panel and under the bezel (with 2 holes in it) that secures the bezel and keeps it from sliding forward. Anyone have one to sell?

Welded the holes in the control panel this morning The original holes would have been wrong for an Arkanoid. I'll be drilling new holes for the Arkanoid configuration once I get the control panel overlay and see where they match up.

Used my HVLP gun to spray the black. It's starting to come together! I'm not sure on the outer color. Maybe black with blue t molding? Maybe white with blue t molding?

STILL NEED THE FRONT Z BRACKET! THE BRACKET THAT GO'S ABOVE THE CONTROL PANEL AND UNDER THE BEZEL TO HOLD IT IN PLACE! IF ANYONE HAS ONE TO SELL, PLEASE PM ME!

I can help with the marquee if you need one. I usually don't like it when cabarets get switched to other games either, but this looks like a cool project. I'd be willing to do a marquee for free for you just to see how it turns out. Message me on my site if you're interested:

those things are hard to find. at this rate you may as well just make your own.

I'm finding that out. I'm looking for someone local that has a machine that cann lend me the piece so that I can have one made as well. I'll get this machine as far as I can and might have to shelf the rest until I can find a bracket.
