Pacman 34,462 Restoration tale.....

I would take a piece of the kick plate art that you cut off to your local paint center and have them match the paint. This way you have a perfect match when you paint the back and top of the cab.

You are going to paint the top and back right?
Already done..... I have a gallon of Pacman Yellow on stand by for all my Pacman projects! :)

I'm going to leave the back DOOR original. It is in nice shaped, I'm going to clean it up and keep it as is.......
That's my PLAN anyway.....

I'm almost tempted to do this to mine...i'm getting sick of sanding this thing lol.

that looks pretty nice...wonder how it will hold up long term?

Thanks Spyridon! :)

I can't blame you for getting sick of sanding! I bet I spend 10 or 15 hours sanding and bondoing that cab......
Not sure if putting on Vinyl will save and time with THAT process! :)
I STILL like the look of a stenciled cab better...IMO they just look better, that being said this thing is looking pretty darn sweet.....
Not sure how it will hold up? Probably not as well as the original paint/finish.....
Anyone have one with this artwork on it that can testify how it hold up over the years?

What kind of paint did you use on the coin door? I've had the door out of my Ms. Pac-man for months now as it's warped from being kicked in. I plan to pound it back into shape then paint it, but I haven't done it because I didn't know what type of paint to use...or how to sand it for that matter.

I wish I had an air compressor so I could media blast it.

Well on MOST of my coin doors I put down a couple coats of Rustoleum's "Hammered" paint, it gives it a nice textured finish. BUT the color is OFF, I then put down a coat of Valspar "Satin" paint. It gives a GREAT looking finish IMO. This door I just spot sanded the rust, and went over the whole thing with steel wool and put a couple coats of the Satin on it.......
Valpar Satin is THE BEST, I go 20 miles out of my way to get to a Lowe's to get it......

I spent a few minutes yesterday and finished the top of the cab up. I used a few pieces of scrap to cover the top edges.......

Well after taking a week off, I FINALLY put in a little time on this again today.
First I installed new light bulbs, then the new marquee!!
I must say, it is finally coming together......

I also dropped the monitor back into it. It got a new cap kit on it. That took care of the general wavy-ness it had going on. I think the K4600 is my LEAST favorite monitor to cap. Everything about it sucks, the daughter boards, the way the plate on the bottom comes off.....it just isn't a fun one to do. I'd much rather do a G07 or an EZV. Just my opinion though.....
As you can see by the stripe down the middle of the tube, she was a little dusty! :)
It cleaned right up though and after the cap kit was in, the pic was nice a sharp!
Tomorrow, I should get to the control panel.......
All 4 switches are shot on the stick and will need replaced......
Both switches on the buttons are toast too.....

Ok well IT IS DONE!!
All except a few minor details. I need to do a little wiring on the coin door, aside from that, she's pretty much done....
I rewired the switches with new ones from Bob Roberts. There was only one direction that worked, and neither start buttons worked.
The control panel turned out REALLY nice I think. I use rustoleum's appliance epoxy paint. It is a nice finish, and is REALLY durable.
Here is the after, and a before for reference!

And finally the control panel and the gameboard......
Flipped the switch and she fired right up!
Here are two finished, and one before I touched it.....
It has come a LOOOOONG way! :)

And lastly a before and after of 34,462
I decided to keep the top part of the back and the back door original since they weren't in THAT bad of shape

Now one last thing, I am kicking around the idea of putting a kick plate and corner protectors on it, just because I like the way they look. That being said, I am reluctant to screw the corner protectors into my pristine cab, also the damage the double sided tape would do to the artwork on the kickplate........
Welp here they are, tacked into place with blue tape.......
What is the Klov opinion on corner protectors and kickplate? Should I keep them, or ditch them
I DO like the way they look!!!

personally, i would skip the kickplate cause as far as i know, pac didn't come with one, and the art would be partially covered. unless of course you are concerned about people banging into the front of it a bunch.

I'm mildly concerned about the artwork. That Vinyl DEF isn't as durable as the original finish....
How about the corner protectors?
