Pacman 25th Anniversary, and that stupid open face power supply

Had one stink up the lobby of a carry out the other day. Is there any reason why I can't just hack a Peter Chou switcher into this, or am I missing something?

Carry out?

I'm not familiar with these machines but I would be very surprised if they were running anything other than a standard switching PS.

It is a dedicated Namco Pacman 25th Anniversary. They ship from the factory using an open faced power supply, with a connector coming from the line filter for 120V, and another connector coming from the JAMMA harness for GND, +5, and +12. I assume I can just cut all that shit out of it and slap a standard switcher in it, but want to make sure I'm not missing anything (other than Namco throwing something stupid in the game like an open faced power supply, which would make some ops think that they have to buy it straight from Namco for $150 because it looks special).

the 20th we've got has a teeny tiny little switching power supply in it.

realistically, it's JAMMA, it uses +5 and +12. you can hack a different one in..

Carry out?

like a restaurant where you buy the food and take it home lol

Carry out?.

$25 and you can carry out a hooker. You can also purchase gold teeth, bail bonds, and get your check cashed in the same place. Don't know about where you are, but they're pretty popular in Baltimore ;)

JK, what mecha said.

The 20th Reunion and 25th Anniversary are 2 different games FYI.

they're not both JAMMA? heard so many people on here claiming that you were only an EPROM upgrade away from turning a 20th into a 25th heh.

nonetheless, people took old games with power supply boards and got switchers to work with those, didn't they? they all run off +5 (game) and +12 (audio).. just my thoughts.

So yeah, a switcher works, but they built that 25th in a manner that forces people not in the know to buy the more expensive open faced power supply. The wires coming off of the JAMMA for +5 and +12 are ridiculously short. The wires for 120V I can work with.

The whole design is fucking stupid, typical Namco.
