Packing that makes me want to cry.

I just got a response from the seller, right after I opened a case in ebay. lol

"Mike, I literally have packed these this way for years. I have no idea what they are doing to the packages these days. USPS has always been great. I have had several complaints since I started back on Ebay. I would like you to be happy, so let me know what I can do. I am thinking about double boxing everything, but I hate the extra cost even though it isn't my expense. I am sorry for the broken and bent parts I really hate it."

He seems to care at least.

They key to getting a response from was to stop being a man, and whine like a little girl. You don't rock someone for a hundo then send them shit.

Well, he claims he's working with me, he's just giving me excuses and bullshitting. I told him I'd take a partial refund and now he's just giving me USPS excuses.

Ok - more excuses - "I didn't drive a truck over it"

edit: More excuses. Nothing about revising shipping methods. Your mileage will vary if you buy from Vidsnpins.

As for the shipment, the seller screwed up. If you take a chance on crappy packing, you have to eat it sometimes.

As for your last post, he may be leary of you now. Asking for a partial refund (i.e. discount) screams scamming buyer. Always either accept or decline the order entirely unless the seller offers a discount first.

My open ebay case has "full refund" on it - So if he can't even flip me a couple bucks back on this thing, I'll just wait for ebay to rule. This convo we're having is going by email. At this point I just hope he starts shipping his shit out like he cares about his customers. The only scam happening here is his shipping methods.

Don't misunderstand my post. I'm not saying you are a scammer, or that a discount isn't the honorable thing to do. Not my point at all.

I'm just saying that claiming some sort of problem, then asking for a reduced price, is a common tactic of scummy buyers. As such, I recommend that buyers either accept the damages for what they are, or completely unwinding the deal, to avoid the appearance of being a bad buyer.

That was my first though too. What'd he change his ebay id to?

Bill Burger

gameboardsoc and then some random ass numbers.

He sucks...

I have shipped plenty of PC-10 games and a few boards and I have always tried to pack them well.

I almost always pack in anti-static, and used plenty of bubble wrap...and I do mean plenty of bubble wrap. I have used closed cell foam in the past.

And one thing I do is use shredded paper and cram the shit in there really tightly. Packing peanuts can cause ESD so I avoid those.

Just my thoughts, never had a complaint on my packing job, but I think it all comes down to how much you care.

You can tell by the people on these boards. Are they themselves collectors who care about the boards or are they just sellers that are here as they have stock.

Your static bags will protect the items, but any loose fill that's not conductive can cause ESD issues. Watch the dust held in your shredder bin by static cling next time you empty it.

You would think that the seller would also consider that the person buying the board might be a repeat customer too.

I bought a board from Riptor and I was amazed at how well it was packaged – anti-static bag, foam fill, and a well sized box. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again – top notch.

Thanks for the compliment. I ship all my boards the same whether its a $300 boardset or a $10 non-working parts board. I go through about a couple hundred dollars a month in boxes and static bags but in the big picture it only cost me a couple bucks extra per shipment.
The worst package I ever received was a glass marquee with a couple pieces of thin cardboard taped on either side. Needless to say what I got was a flexible marquee.

I got a big ass box of midway boards once. It was like 20 pcb's total. The clown thru a couple hand fulls of peanuts in the box and shipped it?

I got a PPU once, and they put a piece of the white foam over the pins. Then one piece of scotch tape around the PPU and foam. Thru the damn thing in a small bubble mailer and shipped?

I got a stack of ninty boards I think it was 6 or 7 total. They put one piece of news paper between the boards and shipped if I recall correctly?

Man there are more but all I can say is wtf...

True the anti static bags will protect the items, even wraping the items in bubble wrap will protect items well, and yes I do know that loose fill of any type can cause ESD, packing peanuts are just asking for ESD, shredded paper not so bad.

Packing peanuts are fine if you buy the right ones. Stay far away from the white ones. Stick your hand down inside a box of peanuts, if any are sticking to you when you pull your hand out they are statically charged.

Not arcade related, but one time I paid top dollar for a reel to reel player for a friend... it was thrown in a box with no packaging, with holes poked through the top that the reel holders WERE STICKING UP THROUGH UNPROTECTED, it arrived with them bent horribly and damaged to the point where everything played on it sounds demonic. I still dig it out every once in a while if I want to laugh at the horrifying sound it gives, but it still pisses me off.

OMG LOL I can't believe you called your wife dopey.

Yeah, he won't get a positive out of me that's for sure, and I don't know how he has 100% positive feedback. I'm not big on giving negatives, it did arrive after all, but this is definitely neutral deserving. My feedback will be determined on if and how he responds.

She's pretty great 99.9% of the time so "dopey" is the harshest I get with her. :)

Bad packing

Happen here too!! It was so bad i actually took pictures before i tested it.

I'm really glad I'm not the only one he's douched on, not that I'm happy you guys got hosed too, but I'm glad I didn't get on here, run my mouth and then find out he just had an off-day or something. Of Course, you should never have an off-day soo bad that you pack someones $120 5-stack board in a box with no bubblewrap. That dude is Clown shoes.

Bare with me here on this, but I designed a lot of packaging at my previous job, they made Ready To Assemble Furniture for big box stores all across the US, Canada, and South America. Every single new box design, and every existing template production package had to be drop tested, shook, thrown, and beat. They actually paid someone to do all these tests in a lab with a bunch of equipment. I wouldn't say I'm packaging master, but I know how to protect soft furniture in a shitty box.

We should create a KLOV standard for shipping - just as a "HowDeDoo" to fellow members when we sell something. Just put will ship KLOV standard in the description. "When you ship KLOV, you ship quality."

As a foundation I'm thinking any bare PCB be allowed AT LEAST 2" on all sides of the box, with exceptions for stuff in a plastic shell. The bigger the better, I usually ship boards in big Dell boxes I used to gank from my previous job. I used a lot of bubblewrap, foam blocks, and newspaper for stuffing the gaps. Not once have I questioned anythiing I've sold because of it. If it was destroyed, someone had a death wish against the package.

I honestly have only used anti-static bags about 1/2 of the time that I've shipped boards in the past, but I think it's time I invest. I honestly think that should be standard too, even though I've never had a static issue that I know of in sending or receiving PCB's. I've received 1 board out of everything I've ever bought with anti-static, and I automatically fell in love with the seller.

Feel free to add to my thoughts or make them better - I'm totally going to use our standard, even if I'm the only one. :)
