Pac v3.0 4n1 how do I upgrade to v3.3?

Since you are already converted to the 4-1, you just need to burn the 512 rom (looks like the 128 hasn't changed from 3.0 to 3.3). If you don't have a burner steph at hobbyroms.com is probably your best bet.

If you already have 3.0 working then there's nothing you need to do hardware-wise for 3.3. I did a file comparison on the 3.0 and 3.3 128 rom and there were no differences. So yeah, just get the 512 and you should be golden.

Thanks for the heads up. I am now erasing the 27C512 and its been awhile since I have burned anything. Would 10 minutes be good enough to to erase the 512?

On a side note I thought this 4n1 was blowing 1 of my 1a fuses. When I pulled the board tonight the fuses were fine. The board was doing wacky stuff in game and also in the menus. I hope this 3.3 version fixes my issues.

Also what is the name of the software to edit the files? I want to change the names to something I like...

With my eraser I need to set it to a little over 20 minutes to get it to erase completely. But YMMV - the timer on mine I suspect is not accurate at all, and it probably depends on how much UV the light is putting out and whatnot. But you can always do a blank check and throw it in for another 5 minutes if necessary.

I've never changed the names. All I do is alter the arcade.souzaonline.com text manually in a hex editor.

Your a wealth of knowledge tonight. The arcade.souzaonline.com what file is that in? What hex editor do you use? Can I search for the website with the hex editor? Do I need to replace that website letter for letter so the file size will be the same?

Thank you for your time.

Well I burned 4PACROW6.512 and reinstalled the board. It is really messing up now. All the ghosts are running out of the grid and It resets the game back to the menu.

The .512 was verified twice so I know that my burn job is fine. You sure I only half to burn the one file and nothing else was changed in the other two files?

I did a file comparison on the 2 files and they are identical. You can always try burning it just in case. Did you edit the text? If so, I think you want to make sure it's the exact same length. I padded my text with spaces before and after to keep the string the same length. BTW, to get a space, use the "@" character. It doesn't use standard ASCII values for non alphanumeric characters.

I didn't edit anything yet. I just burned the 3.3 original file I downloaded.

I went ahead and pulled the 2PACROW5.128 and pealed the label off and my Bp Microsystem Ep-1140 burner doesn't know what it is... Bummer

Well damn...

Great idea I could do that I have plenty of the 27C512's... But I only have the one 27128.

The 3.0 hack wasn't working very well at all. It had all kinds of issues but at least the ghosts stayed in the maze.

Guess I'll be making a run to riptors I mean the misses will be making a run for some .128's

Well I found a generic setting for the 27128 and I burned the new file. I still have all the same issues.

Hum.... Idk

Kinda sounds like you have hardware issues. Maybe part of the hardware hack is wrong? I'd double check all those jumpers.

Thanks for all of your time on this. When I woke up this morning I went ahead a burned a backup v3.0 of the 4n1 .512 eprom. I have the same results now with that one as I do with the v3.3

So now I am at a loss because I was very careful with the 4n1 main board but something has happened because it sure wasn't running like this before I touched it. I hope I haven't knock something loose on the board.

I will see tonight when I get home if the problem with this 4n1 lays with the power supply and or power issues.

One thing I haven't done yet is place my regular Ms. Pac-man board back in the machine to test if it is working okay. All the fuses are fine but I will also clean all the holders with the dremel tonight and put some more tension back on the fuses. After that I just don't know.

Yeah, definitely check your 4-1 hack connections and if they look good with no splashes to adjacent pins try going back to pac roms and see what happens. If you still have problems with pac roms then at least there is tons of info on what causes what symptoms. Good luck!

Bring the board by and I will get it straight. Remind me and I will give you a stash of 27128...I have about 800 of them.
