Yup. The dreaded question. Does anyone have Pac Man vector artwork for stencils? I know that there is inferior vector artwork available out there which I don't want to use. I am looking for the real deal.

I am in the process of turning an old Galaxian cabinet into a Pac Man. One Galaxian is being used to save/restore another. I want to put together a Pac Man cabinet from the leftover cab where the artwork is completely ruined beyond repair.

I have tried to find this information before, but came up with nothing. I figured it was worth another shot. Maybe somebody can PM me instead of answering here directly since it is such a sensitive subject. I would love to get Pac Man artwork converted into a vector format for stencil painting. A friend of mine who paints will cut the masks for me as a favor, should I find them.

I appreciate the help if anybody has the info. :)

not trying to tick you off about the "sentivity" about not pm ing
But you need the same thing that i need so if yuu find anything tell me
via pm

thanks,cam

If they proper vectored art exists, the person with it probably did it themselves and isn't likely to give it away. You are more likely to have better luck asking for someone to sell you a complete set of stencils than you are asking for the vector files.

As was mentioned before, the vectors at vector library are not correct. If you are looking to get the correct vector files you will have better luck scanning and tracing the original cabinet to get the artwork correct. If you are lucky, the cabinet you are scanning will be in good condition.

Again, as stated above, you will either need to scan and trace and vector yourself or just talk to the right people to get stencils made. Nobody will give you a correct set of vector files.

I don't disagree with this at all. I've tried to get masks for Pac Man with no luck. Nobody has them, or at least nobody will sell them to me.

Well, it was worth a shot. I guess it is time to throw my extra Galaxian cabinet in the dumpster...

OH NO! Nobody will give you for free their hours and hours of work so you're gonna dump a galaxian! Don't use being a cheapass as a threat to destroy a game if you don't get someone elses hard work for free. That's lame as hell.

Yeah, sorry about that, but you kind of fell for my trap. :) I posted that way to get a response from somebody who has made Pac Man stencils. The only people who would be angered by my post are those that had already taken the time to make Pac Man vector artwork.

So I did some searching through your old posts and discovered that in fact you DO have Pac Man vector artwork. :D

I know what yer sayin.. wish I could. I'm hoping to nail down some licensing to actually allow me to use these files I have.

I don't blame you for not wanting to hand out your artwork, but there are boatloads of free vector artwork out there right now including Donkey Kong, Ms. Pac Man and countless other files. I just figured that asking for Pac Man artwork would be just like asking for Donkey Kong artwork. The copyright issues are what make it complicated and if I were you I might keep them a secret too.

These Pac Man artwork posts will continue to pop up and be greeted with silence and confusion. There is a post on the general discussion page about Pac Man art as we speak. At this point I am giving up on it. I will just try to find a used Pac Man with decent artwork. It will probably be cheaper in the long run...

Because of the condition of most cabinets, it is very time consuming to create the correct artwork. I clamped a level on my cabinet and laid the scanner on and made numerous scans. Moved the level down a notch and repeated the process for the entire cabinet. I pieced them all together in my sign software and have been working on the artwork when I have spare time. Giving all that time away for nothing is like working for free, and because of the copyrights on the art, it cannot be sold. I only wish I had a very nice cabinet to start with, would make the work much easier.

And you accomplished what besides looking like an asshole?

I wouldn't sell it to you, let alone give it to you for free.

I wouldn't sell it to you, let alone give it to you for free.

After 6 months of trying to track down artwork/buy stencils/buy artwork/buy masks I've gotten nowhere. Nobody will sell it to me anyway. It isn't as though I have lost something.

I have already cut Ms. Pac Man stencils out of a flexible laminate material on my CNC router. I got the artwork free online. I modded a couple of things in the artwork to match my cabinet. I now have a complete and reusable set of Ms Pac stencils.

I have lent them multiple times to friends and friends-of-friends in the area to repaint their machines. I am not selling artwork, so there is no harm done here. People got to restore their Ms. Pacs for free and not have to decode cryptic forum posts. :) My Ms. Pac upright looks like it is brand new now. I will eventually give the stencils away.

I figured I would try the same thing with Pac Man. I'd cut them just like I did the Ms. Pac stencils and try to help out the arcade community. I just didn't expect that everybody would get their panties in a bunch over it.

At this point I am already making my own set from a friend's Pac Man machine. I've already scanned one side in and transferred it to a DXF file for my router. I just need to free up some more time to scan the front and the opposite side. I can't wait to paint it and get it looking as nice as my Ms. Pac!

And you accomplished what besides looking like an asshole?

Simple. I let EVERYBODY ELSE on the forum know who can make Pac Man stencils. :) Talon2000 apparently has the files too.

Behind the scenes I have gotten loads of emails and PM's asking to share the info if I find it. I am not the only person looking. There are a lot of people who would like to know where to look, so I let them know.

If you want call me an asshole, go ahead. I guess I am trying to help other people locate them as well.

What did your post accomplish, aside from making YOU look like an asshole? :D

There's a reason the info is hard to find and not listed all over a public forum.

So, you took the names of the few people that were potentially doing a favor to people making stencils and decided it was your job to expose them to legal issues because why?

And by the way, when it comes to hard plastic 're usable' ms pac stencils i'm afraid i'm calling bullshit on that one. It's just not possible.

It IS all over a public forum. It is right here on the forum, plain as day. Search and you will find them posting this info. What is the difference between my post where I referenced their old thread, and their original post where THEY SAID THAT THEY HAVE IT? They posted it, not me. There are even more that have the artwork than just these two guys.

If they didn't want it here, then THEY shouldn't have posted it on the forum in the first place. Don't shoot the messenger for digging through some old posts. Whine all you want. I honestly don't care.

You have no idea how many people have contacted me and thanked me for this thread.

YOU exposed yourself. You posted the info on here, not me. I just found it. Post it on a public forum and you will get asked about it on a public forum. Besides, there is no legal ramification for creating and owning Pac Man stencils.

Don't be surprised that somebody else can do something that you can't. My father was in the furniture manufacturing business for almost 40 years. I own a manufacturing company of my own.

Arcade machines aren't exactly complicated furniture. They were built quickly and as cheaply as possible. All of the original Pac Man and Ms. Pac Man artwork was painted with reusable stencils. Do you think that they painted every machine with vinyl or masked stencils? No way.

Even complex floating shapes can be held in place with a little work. When you have CNC manufacturing resources and lots of CAD and CAM software, it isn't that big of a deal. It is a fricking three color picture with some floating pieces for crying out loud, not a Monet. It might be harder than making stencils for a Moon Patrol or a Joust, but it is far from impossible.

The old machines don't look like the new stencils anyway. The lines on my Ms. Pac were fuzzy in some spots and sharp in others. Some of the black bleeds through on the edges because they weren't even lined up perfectly. That is how most of them look, even with a perfect 'factory' paint job.

They made these machines THIRTY years ago. This isn't rocket science...

If it's so simple, why haven't you done this yourself instead of bitching about it like a tool?

Hey, I have asked around about stencils too (in private PMs) and I'm apparently not on the cool guy list either, but I would never post shit in a public forum that would expose people to possible legal trouble just because I didn't get what I wanted. That's fucked up.

I never advocate censorship, but I do feel that this thread should be deleted.
