I went to my local sign company and they quoted me $500 to make a Pac Man or Ms. Pac Man stencil set. That's Crazy!!!! I went to other shops in town and most of them can't make stencils. They all suggested a digital print but I want to make this thing look original and i am willing to do the work. Is there some online company that would make me a stencil set? I have the files. I know they can be made cheaper. Maybe someone has one for sale!? Or someone can get some made up and i would be a buyer for one.

That's crazy! My shop would charge around $100 to cut and mask something that size. Unfortunately we do not ship...

$500 is probably a deterent quote cause they aren't interested in doing it. Seems like a stencil might be void of any art rights. It's a tool made of tape that you blow or roll paint at... The resulting art is the craft work of your own hand! :)

Stencils

I know that this is an old thread, but if anyone has the correct files and wants some stencils I can cut them with my vinyl cutter. The stencils are a material that is similar to vinyl and is easily cut on my vinyl cutter. I have files for one of my machines, but I think I am going to layer it in colored vinyl then clear coat the machine. I don't like the over spray look that stencils have, love the crisp lines of the colored vinyl.

If you are using vinyl stencils, I don't know how you would end up with any over spray?

overspray

I was just referring to the original paint on my unit. There is a lot of overspray from each color, and I realize it is because of mass producing. I am going to paint my cabinet yellow and then do the blue spatter. But I am going to lay down black, blue, and red vinyl for the graphics. I think I am going to clear coat the entire thing once I am done. I would like to get some high resolution pics of a completed one. I am in the middle of creating the graphics for mine, but some parts are faded and worn off.

if you're just sticking on vinyl why not just buy screen printed vinyl art and save a bunch of labor.

I've done stencils myself, not sure it would be a whole lot more work. Like you said, mass production = stencil lift and overspray, but if you do it, you will take the time to push down the vinyl good and have solid lines. Might have some touchup, but by the time you get all your stencil on your cab will grow in width you have so much stackup! haha, not really, but stepping will be visual.

Vinyl

Making the files for other projects, not just one. The vinyl is only 2mil, not very thick. Once clear coated it will look great. I may still just stencil it with the pre-mask I have, depends on how I feel that day I guess. :)

I am about 1/2 way done with vectorizing the side of my pac man cabinet. I was wondering if anyone knew why the letter "C" in the pac man name has an opening on the bottom that should be red, but is left open? The one on the marquee has the red, just curiosity I guess. Maybe Midway messed up when doing the stenciling in the beginning?
