Here is my first attempt at doing a stenciled restore. I didn't take many pics as I was restoring it, but at least I have a before and after. I should take more pics, but I just get so involved and forget. Hope you like.

Sweet!! The only nit-picky thing I have to say is orange t-molding would have looked more original. But I also like the black, it looks sharper!

Looks really good Tom. I'm currently working on one of these myself; same thing: a Pacman, converted to a Pac-Plus, restoring back to original Pac.

Can I ask what paint and paint methods you used? I've been experimenting with different colors and spray methods to get my set up going before I paint the stenciled portions.

That original pic is pretty bad, but very interesting to paint the entire thing black, but preserve part of the artwork. Kind of a custom look.

Great job.

Great job.

I used a roller and sanded between coats to remove high spots and defects. It took quite a few coats to cover with this yellow. I used Glidden "Sunny Side Up" from Home Depot. I used a brush to paint the blue and red. On the black I used a spray can. I don't know if it was because I used a Latex paint that I had issues when removing the stencils. So be careful how long you let the paint set before you remove the stencils. The next time I try this I will sand the yellow lightly before I start with the stencils. I think the light sand will help with the other colors adhesion, so it doesn't pull up with the stencil.

Looks great! Did you decide not to do the blue paint splatter dots or are you still planning on doing them?

Looks sharp! The more of these nice Pac stencil jobs I see, the more I'm inclined to completely re-paint my own.

Do you mean that it's better to remove the stencils before the paint has completely dried?

It looks like these are two extra buttons on the control panel that you forgot to remove. ;) Actually, I like that you used black buttons... it blends in with the control panel and makes them less noticeable.

Tom,

That thing looks great nice job. It looks sweet. I should take pics of what I did to the cab next to the pac in the first pic. Great work brother.

Yes. When I tried to remove the stencil after the paint was dry, it pulled a lot of the paint with it. I had to exacto around the edges on that stencil piece. Again, maybe it was the latex paint that I used. I hope someone else can tell what they did and what paint they used, so we can see a comparison.

The rule of thumb is pull tape just after tacky, or really dry. Not necessarily next day, but really dry. In between will pull extra paint.

Beautiful cab, very nice job! I'm also on the orange t-molding bus, but the black is sharp... wonder how it would look with yellow? ;)
