I picked up a Arkanoid II: Revenge of Doh cab and converted it back to it's original Pac-man

Here is what I started with:

Back door was in rough shape so a new one would need to be cut

Wire harness was all hacked up to add in the jamma board.

(stupid picture limit)

First step was to strip the cab down. See...it really was a pac-man:

Coin door is going to need a bit of work

Completely stripped the cab down to the bare wood and cut a new backdoor

After some heavy bondo sessions, primer coats were added

At the same time, metal parts were stripped down for painting

I swapped my Arkanoid control panel with someone for a pac-control panel

A heat gun made quick work of the old overlay

Stripped down to the bare metal and some bondo work on some extra holes

and then a coat of primer

Textured black paint and cleaned up all the parts

This is my first time using automotive paints on a cab

(special thanks to Talon2000 for the paint codes)

Painted the inside area black

And the (almost) finished product

Still need to replace the marquee with a NOS one I have (haven't had the time to remove the stuck on paper covering yet) and permanently attach the new logo plate on the coin door (waiting for the correct rivets)

You can read all the details of the full restore here

They look so good when done right huh?? I couldn't have done better.. So what do you think of my color codes? They do come out nice..
No I've got a few Ms pacs for you to do :)

Great work.

I have followed the whole restoration over on BYOAC. The entire process was absolutely amazing. Congrats! Job well done!!

It sure makes me want to get going on mine. I have the same stencils. My little brother is a auto painter. He is looking forward to this project too. With any luck it will come out as nice as yours.

Absolutely amazing.

Great work.

Colors were perfect. I can't believe how smooth the automotive paints go on. Absolutely flawless paint job. The clear coat on the other hand was a pain in neck. Lots of orange peel that took some work to buff out. I need to find a better way to apply the clear.

I'd love to do the same process on a Ms Pac. Just need to find one nearby at a good price point.

Thanks for the compliments. Go ahead and get going on yours. There is nothing more exciting than pulling off the stencils and seeing what you end up with.

Damn, that's sharp! I really want an original Pac-man in my collection (I like it more than Ms Pac) but I can never find a really nice one. It is such a significant game and should be in every collection, really. I would LOVE to have one that nice. Seeing yours doesn't make me want one any less!!

Maybe one of these days I'll just suck it up and pay for one that nice. Or who knows, I might end up with enough time to do a restoration like that down the road. Way down the road.

Simply beautiful. My Pac is next after I finish my Gorf, which was also inspired by your restoration! Where did you get the stencils from?
