Thats a pac board that has been modified to play mspac without the daughterboard. The extra board there is the filter board. The reason you have never seen on is because it usually gets thrown away, which is what you should do with it.

That little board is the filter board, and requires proper installation in order to be useful. To do this, hold the board at eye level over an open trash can, then release. Your filter board is now properly installed.

But seriously, yeah, all Pac games originally shipped with that filter board - has something to do with filtering RF noise, but I can't see it helping at all, espeically since the Pac board was never mounted in a cage, and there is no additional grounding for the filter board. The main thing the filter boards did was introduce another set of bad connections to an already-lacking wiring harness. They usually wound up either in the trash, or in the bottom of the cabinet, with the dust bunnies, gum wrappers and stray quarters.

Ok thanks guys. Is there something to be said about the WAY it was converted w/o daughterboard? What I mean by that is, is it an earlier conversion or later etc? Or and earlier/clunkier way to convert it?

Done Per Spec

If you look on row 6 there are two extra eproms there than normal. These were done to eliminate the daughterboard which used a ribbon cable known to cause alot of issues. The good news is you can swap 6E-6J with standard pac roms and discard the extra two to turn it back to a standard pac.

What about 5E/5F?
