Pac-Man & Mrs. Pac-Man Pinball

I would suggest replacing those IDC connectors with molex style crimp before you get too far, they are known to cause issues as well.

If you decide to skip past the mpu issues - this would help:

I keep one around to test Bally\Stern games when I get them (after rebuilding the connectors). That way I can mess with the MPU while working on other things as well (or just leave it in there and call it done if the MPU is wasted from battery damage)

I had a M&MPM project last year - was fun to bring back from the dead.

So far, I'm having fun diagnosing and troubleshooting.
I'm super excited to even have come this far. :)

It is comforting to know, that there is a place I could go for replacement boards. This way i know there is a way out of a jam, and I'm not stuck in any situation. But, for now, I'm gonna try to at least get everything behind that backglass, and under the playfield up and running as it should the old fashion way. Try to save all original boards and such. Then fine tune it up.

Well, the chips came yesterday..,. (that's another story).

But we have all 7 flashes now, and the game boots, and runs thru the normal sequence of things. When a game is started, some things work and some do not. Flippers are strong, saucers work, but none of the slingshots, bumpers, or drop targets work. Noticed I'm missing the Solenoid Expander under the playfield. So I ordered one. The sound portion works ok. Not loud, but you can hear it. But the speech portion is very quiet. Barely hear it.
But hey... We're getting there, and getting excited to see it come alive!

Before *replacing* everything, make sure you do the proper volumne adjust as specified in the manual..!

I'm working on one now, and the previous owner completely futzed up the volume pots - once adjusted properly, the main vol adjust on the coin door worked great, and could head both the music and speeches.

Tried following the volume adjustment in manual.
Still dead end.
Caps for it arrive Friday, and Solenoid Expander arrives Thursday.
Meanwhile, I replaced some bulbs, cleaned a couple leaf switch contacts, cleaned up plastics and reseated most of the chips and harness connections.

New 6821s installed.
Back to life. But after awhile of playing and tinkering, I turned it off. When turned back on, the initial "Pac-Man" at boot up has become warbled and distorted. But was fine after chip installation. Would a bad display cause this? This is what began to happen before the 6821 began to fail last time.
Any input appreciated.

Alot has happened since last post,. I ended up getting two PinLed 7 digit displays, and they worked fantastic! But the place I was getting them from, could not get 6 digit ones. So, it was suggested to me, to grab a set of (4) 7 digit and (2) 6 digit displays from Rottendog.
So, I did just that. But couldn't get them to work properly.
Display is real dim, and when more than one display is connected, it won't boot past the Squawk and talk sequence.

Having a hard time in this area.
So, currently I have the two PinLed displays running alongside the other original four that came with the game.

Any ideas?

All I know is your playfield looks a hundred times better than the M&MPM I had. That game is on location and lit up 24/7 at the Monte in downtown Billings.
