Pac-Man keeps rebooting.

I would start by carefully watching the screen just before reboot to see if any ROM or RAM errors flash up on the screen.

If not, I'd check the ROMs first, RAMs second.

I see a real quick RAM 1 displayed possibly a C before it. There is a screen shot that matches what I have on Arcadegameover.com

It says video ram at 4P. There are 6 similar ram chips in that area and they are all socketed.

Is it Ok to swap with another and see if the issue changes?

Or should I try to locate one of these somewhere and just change it?

SY2114L-2 is the number on the chip in that location. I have some boards kicking around from other games. Is there another comparible number that will work there?

You can swap them around and see if the error changes. Mark the suspect bad one before removing any. Most any 2114 ram will work on a pac. It may just be a socket issue and reseating them might get you going.

Start simple, make sure your slam switch isn't shorted. Does it cycle when you put it in test mode?

I had similar reset problems that was repaired by fixing the ground from the game to plug end.

Where exactly is the slam switch? I've heard of it but never figured out where it is.

You missed where he said it was flashing up a chip error on the screen. ;)

Nothing about the test switch was mentioned, and it could have been from the selftest when it starts up. Perhaps if there is an error code, it will stay up long enough to read in test mode.

Thanks I picked up a 2114 chip today and it is working again. It was the ram at 4P. Thanks for the help.
