Pac-Man Control Panel Vs. Ms. Pac-Man Control Panel

I'm looking to convert a Galaxian into a Pac-Man, and saw two-bits sells a new control panel which says it's made for both Pac-Man, and Ms. Pac-Man. However I wanted to know how different Pac / Ms. Pac control panels are on the original machines outside of the cpo of course. discernible differences ?

Also as a side note which one of bob roberts short white leaf buttons represent the closest to the original buttons used on a Midway pac-man cabinet? Does any one make a reproduction 4-way leaf for Pac-man, if not I'm pretty surprised, but I only keep finding micro style joysticks.

The only real difference is the Pac-Man panels had a wood sheat underneath, so the locking clips would be about a half an inch or so lower in those cabs. No big deal though, worst case scenario is you have to remount those clips to accomidate.

Don't buy it from twobits, though (except for maybe the CPO although some will bitch about that).

Two Bits

Control Panel with bolts and overlay - $99 (you may have to install it yourself)
4-way joystick - $39
Buttons - $10
--------------------
Total - $148 - and that includes no wiring or connectors

Compare that to:

Arcadeshop

Completely assembled and wired and ready to plug in:

Ms. Pac CP - $125

or

Pac CP - $125

Of course, you may save yourself a few bucks if you buy it in pieces and assemble it yourself.

And as was mentioned before, the Pac CP originally had a piece of wood underneath (the new one doesn't) so you would need to move the clips up about an inch if putting one of these in a Pac cab. I'm not sure if it will be necessary on the Galaxian cab....

You can get a 4-way leaf if you need one. I have several original Pac joystick assemblies, but they won't mount to the hole patterns of the new CP's without an adapter plate...

yeah id like to get an original joystick and not a micro.. also I wouldn't mind re-vamping a used original pac-man control panel especially if it saves me some cheese.. the cpo several people told me they have em so on that I should be good; i dont mind piece mealing things together. I think I might even grab a brand new monitor for this game.

also gonna go with a brand new monitor for this game, any recommendations? I have a vision pro im pretty happy with , but it seems they are still available but for 50 more than i payed for mine.

also I noticed that the arcade shop has a molex connector, but would it work with the galaxian being that galaxian was a 2-way game ? Or would I need to re-wire it?? If I did re-wire it I would most likely just JAMMA the cabinet.

Same thing on the PCB, let's say I get a pac PCB are the pinouts the same on Galaxian and Pac where I would be able to literally just swap out the PCB? I'll check once I actually snag a board, would make things nice and easy.

I'm curious about this as well. Bob Roberts lists a Snow White button and a Pure White button. Need to replace the buttons on my Ms. Pac-Man. I think snow white looks better but want as close to the original as I can.

Thanks.

If you want it to look right, you will need to put the wood under the panel. I am in the process of doing the same thing. Look at the Pac CPO. There is 1 hole on each side of the joystick and the Ms. Pac CPO has 2 holes on each side. Basically, on a factory Pacman CPO, the joystick bolts to the wood and then you bolt the wood to the panel. If you use a Pac CPO and bolt the joystick right to the control panel, you will need to poke 4 holes in the CPO and there will still be the 2 original holes that won't be used.

i keep swapping a wood pac panel and a ms pacman metal panel into my project cabinet. you only have to move the clips that mount it, both lock in fine and look standard once you have it locked down.
