Has anyone here ever modded their original Pac-Man to have coin door lights behind the 25 cent inserts?

If so, can you explain how you did it? I have a feeling this mod might be pretty simple to do, but I don't want to do anything stupid and drain power from the PCB.

I've always liked how Ms Pac-Man's coin door lights were lit up. So it would be cool to do it on Pac-Man as well.

I've used these LEDs on my other games. They come in both 6V and 12V.

Perhaps they will work for this mod?

wire it up to 5 DC or AC, light bulbs dont care if its ac or dc

Can you tell me exactly where inside the machine I do this?

Can I tap into the coin door harness?

Straight off the power supply?

I just don't want to tap into the wrong spot and create unintended consequences elsewhere.

EDIT: I just read elsewhere that "Ms. Pac coin door lights are lit by 12 volts AC from one of the power transformers in the back of the machine." So perhaps I should use 12v LEDs right of the power supply for this?

That should be fine. I'd fuse the line in case of a short.

you really have tons of options with is, its up to you how you want to proceed with it. You could even buy a cheap little 5v switching power supply and wire it it an keep the coin door light mod not attached to any of the factory wiring going to the board.

something like this

they make 12v versions too if you want to use 12v bulbs but i just feel there are more bulb options at the 5v option.

That's what I did. I ran wires from the power block along the existing harness and plugged 12v LEDs in bayonet holders zip-tied inside the coin door (so it can all be removed with no trace of alteration if a purist wants).

Thanks! I think that I'm going to go this route. It appears to be the most logical/easy/cheapest/least damaging method.

Got the coin door lights wired up to my Pac-Man. If anyone gives 2 cares, here is what I did:

Used BA9s LED Warm 12V from superbrightleds.com
And got the bayonet bulb sockets and .084 pins from arcadeshop.com

Used alligator clips to make sure I had it tested and working on the correct power supply outputs

The existing coin door molex had 2 unused holes so I ran the ground and 12v wires through those.

Mounted the bayonets behind the coin inserts.

I like coin door lights. I am happy now.

Nice job!!! may mod my Centipede Cabaret marquee to light up this way.

Looks nice!
I thought original Pac cocktails only have 1 spot. Are you sure that door is not a Ms Pac to start with?

This machine is Pac-Man Upright. I assume Pac and Ms Pac coin doors were very similar.

BTW I have the highscoresaves.com kit in this machine. Absolutely LOVE it.
