So I did my first tech gig yesterday/today. Heres the backstory.

The guy said he 'accidentally left his Pac Man running for 2 weeks solid, day and night (somehow?). One night he finally turned it off. The next time he turned it back on, it came up with a scrambled screen. He called me and see if I could do anything and after some testing, I found the board to be the culprit. So I sold him and installed a Pac Man plus board and it booted. After bidding adieu, he calls me 5 minutes later while I am still on the road and said that it blanked out and wont turn back on. So I flip a u-turn and head back.

I went and checked the voltages at the edge connector and found that the +12 was only pushing 8. Ah ha. So in order to make it a short trip, I went ahead and ripped the PS out of my Pac Man plus (I am multiing it anyway) and sold it to him and installed it. So he now has a perfectly working Pac Man again.

So now I have these two defective parts.

1) Whats wrong with the board? I have already reseated the chips/daughter boards and given the legs a quick cleaning.

2)What can be done about the power supply that is not supplying the correct voltage?

Never mind, Fixed the board by replacing the Z80.

Still could use help on the Power Supply...

Are you talking the transformers? Not much to those. The fuse clips are a known weak point....they lose their tension and stop "biting" the fuses.

Edward (some call me Babs!)

I suppose. There isnt much to it. Could weak fuse holders cause insufficient voltages?
