Pac 4 in 1 version 3.1 posted

Awesome! I just completed this mod today still need to buy some nvram(2114 piggybacked for now). Thank you for the update.

Just finished installing the 3.4 upgrade and I'm loving the game selection startup. A really nice new feature, and the 30 second timeout for name entry is also a very nice upgrade to the HSS features!

What I've noticed is that if you tap both the P1&P2 start buttons, it goes back to the selected startup game, but if you click and hold (For about 2 seconds or longer) then release it will go the the game selection screen. I'm wondering if theres a way for that hold time to be adjustable in the options menu?

This would be useful so that if you want you could make it so if you tap P1&P2 it goes straight to the menu selection screen (no possibility of going to the startup game) or you could make the delay longer. (in second increments possibly or whatever is easier) Also, maybe an option to chose a single game mode that only lets the user play a game selected at startup? (That way you can still access the options menu if you want to change this)

I'm probably suggesting too much, but I see potential with this startup game design and how you've implemented it.

i have this running on a "Ms Pac Championship/Super Zola Pac Gal PCB". the board has a service switch pin (from memory, its on one of the undefined pins 26?). when grounded it makes the options item go away, but you can still scroll down to options and select it.

also have issues with the board not booting intermittently, but that appears to be related to the DS1225 as the original ram works every time. probably chinese knockoff DS1225's

I did have to change the P1+P2 reset feature a bit. Without getting too much into the gritty details, you need to hold the buttons down for 2 seconds or so instead of the quick push to get to the menu. It might take a bit to get used to since people might be familiar with the old way. Try it out for a bit, you will get used to it. If not, let me know and I will try and tweak it a bit (maybe)

I am inclined to keep it the way it is, let's see what other feedback looks like.
Thanks for trying it out and the feedback

I don't think 3.4 will run on this board ( I actually have another version that runs on those boards). If there is interest in a 3.4 update for those boards let me know.

my bad, i forgot to mention i was running the 3.3 build for that board.

Sorry for the bump. I just tried installing this on a working Ms Pac board using 2 w27c512 because I didn't have a 27c128.

Any trick to getting it to work with a 512 at row 5?

@RtypeEman can you verify which pin this is for reset? I just picked up two of these and will be converting shortly. Would love to know how to turn off options on this one.

Thanks!

I got his running and it was the easiest 4-1 conversion ever. Jus need to find which pin to ground so I can install a switch to turn off options menu.

Sounds like I misread the post from @RtypeEman. On this board (super Zola pac gal) there is no way to kill options access? @jsouza any chance this has been fixed? I know Dev stopped a while ago, but wasn't sure if someone had figured it out.

Thanks!

@jsouza I just burned and installed 3.4. I see that you're supposed to hold P1+P2 for 2 seconds to go back to the menu, but that's not working for me. No matter how long I hold them, it always simply resets the current game (which right now is ms pac fast). Is that because I have it set to boot to ms pac fast? The consequence of this is it's permanently stuck on ms pac fast, even if I cycle the power!

Any chance of fixing this apparent bug? And is there any way to work around this, like a way to override the boot mode somehow (hold a button during power on)?

Maybe I'll need to go back to 3.3 for now, but hopefully this can be fixed. I'm willing to do as much testing as you need to help complete this (since it appears it's still a pre-release).

Thanks for continuing to work on this awesome mod. I've sure loved having it on my cocktail cabinet all these years!

P.S. I would second the motion to either decrease the 2 second delay or make it configurable. 2 seconds seems like a long time. 1 second seems better to me. I actually liked it being instantaneous on earlier versions and think that's probably more "visitor friendly". I can imagine instantaneous could be potentially problematic on uprights, but the cocktail cabinets have small P1/P2 buttons that require a fair amount of pressure and aren't prone to accidentally being pressed together. So therefore if you're open to it, a configurable option of 0, 1, or 2 seconds seems like a good idea, or perhaps if you don't want to add an option, you could automatically choose 0 or 1/2 seconds since you can detect what kind of cab is being used. Just my 2 cents, if you have the willingness. :)
