Ok one of my monitors needs degaused on my twin outrunners. I have a degaussing coil at home and tried degaussing it this morning and it didnt take care of the problem. Have degaused other monitors in the past with this same degaussing coil with no problems at all. Is their anything else that works just as well as a degaussing coil if not better?

guess I could always stick magnets to the outside of the monitor frame area where the game is being affected and it should do the trick...

That's a terrible idea. I find flicking the button on the wand as quickly as possible near the affected area is much more effective than the "standard" degaussing technique.

Are you sure it is a gaussing issue and not a purity issue? Post a picture of the screen if you can.

My Neo Geo sat in the same place for around 15 years from the folks I bought it from, and I had a red spot at the bottom right that wouldn't go away if the machine was facing a certain way.

Just to be sure it's not something like that (apparently affected by the earth's magnetic field, or so I was told?), if you can, try rotating the machine 90 degrees and see if the issues fade at all.

see thats just the prob......it was working fine b4 I moved it 90 degrees exactly.....I got in the back of the cab to try and turn the brightness up on the flyback as the right screen was a little dimmer than the left screen.....i move it back and bam theirs the damn discoloration in the corners.....so I guess its worth a shot to move it 90 degrees again and see if it fixes it.....

I just left mine at the rotation in which that odd discoloration occurred, and it eventually went away on its own.

The idea that the earth's magnetic field was what was affecting it sounds reasonable to me -- after all, given that the degauss button on tube-type computer monitors was often used after a move/rotation of your monitor, I think the same idea is applicable to tube-type arcade monitors.

Yeah, I'd like to mention that he has a point -- AFAIK, "Magnets BAD."

cool.....I will just turn the monitors on for awhile each day and hopefully it goes away after a couple of weeks.....just frustrating when it was perfectly fine b4 I turned it to adjust the brightness pot......I also, have a degauss switch to push but it does nothing so obviously its not wired up..........

The knob on the flyback is screen voltage, NOT brightness. It shouldn't be used to adjust the brightness unless the proper brightness adjustment will not go bright enough.
