OutRun upright restoration

AMAZING job on that restore. I have one burning question... What ROM version are you running on it? I'm hoping you're running the Enhanced Edition v2.0.3 set. I almost picked up an Outrun cab just so I could run that specific set of ROMS (well, technically I was going to run the previous enhanced set before this one came out).

Thanks! I believe my Enhanced version is 2.0.2.

That was the one indeed. But, I found that Feeney laminate has a deeper black than the Wilsonart and is cheaper, both on matte. I think the Feeney 2110 is a better match to the black vinyl that covered the cabinet. They both behave the same in terms of installation, in my experience.

The problem is that Feeney matte 2110 does not seem to be available in 4x8.

I would order samples of the 401 Pitch Black Feeney and the 1595 Wilsonart, both in matte to compare.

Good luck!

Bumping my own post but the Feeney 2110 Matte 4x8 vertical grade is available

Just picked up an Outrun been converted to turbo but I'm going back. Had to say your resto was sweet, awesome job. Outrun is the second best racer, Top Speed of course has a Rx-7 turbo 2 and is better then a Ferrari. Hehe kidding aside(not about the Rx-7!) no doubt Outrun is the greatest arcade racer. Just awesome!

Thanks! The game still runs great and gets played regularly…

So is Craig at giz10p not around anymore? Link doesn't work to his site and it seems he's the only one doing plastic dash panels. @parism

Is the FB group called Sega OutRun Owners Club? For the record, I still have a brand new dash to sell that I no longer need :)

WOW! That looks amazing, especially what you did to the metal surfaces and start emblem. I just picked up a project this week and found this thread researching what I might be in for. The cabinet seems in reasonably good shape structurally, but on the inside it is a cruddy mess. Smells like something was nesting in there, so I'll have to remove everything, bleach it down, and maybe even a coat of Kilz or something to eliminate any change of smell in the future.

Did you have much repair to do on the electronics? This one is stuck on the test screen with jacked up graphics and the steering input stuck to the left. Looks like I have a lot of mechanical work to do before I dive into that.

Congrats on the pickup, it is a great game!

I don't recall doing much on the board itself other that replacing some RAM in the audio section that went haywire the day I finished the restoration…

If you can burn ROMs, try the memory test ROMs below and take it from there. The fact that you have video is a huge plus…
