Outrun Suicide Battery pcbs?

For most of them, look for a big black chip that says Hitachi and has FD1094 written on it. There are some Sega boards that have a replacement Z80 instead, but can't say I know what to look for on those.

Outrun only had the suicide battery on a 68000 core, if your board has one of these then it still has its battery.

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like both boards I have do not have the suicide battery so that's good. But both boards don't seem to be working which sucks

There's a service that will send you a kit to circumvent that. I know one of my Out Run boards has the FD1094 thing, but chances are it doesn't work on top of that.

The would have had one originally, the FD1094 has to be paired with ROMs that contain the encrypted code, so if the FD has been replaced with a standard 68000 then the ROMs will need to be replaced too - if you have a standard 68000 and original ROMs still then that wont work.

Does this apply to the other Sega games of the era (Hang-on, Space Harrier, Afterburner, Enduro Racer, etc..)?

Yes, many Sega games of that era have the subject encrypted CPU module. However, of the one's you list, only Enduro Racer.
