I finally had a chance to turn on the OutRun after a long winter's nap and the sound is completely missing. If my search is correct, it looks like the first place I should look is for 12v going to the sound board. I thought I had this thing sold to pick up a drum set for my son but now it doesn't look too promising. Thanks for any and all help.

You need to determine if sound really is completely missing, the game sounds might be but do you get any pop from the speakers on power up, any hiss from the speakers, and if you turn up the volume do you hear any hiss or crackle getting louder.

If you get hiss and can control it with the volume control then the amp is running and the speakers are connected, in that case the game is no longer giving an audio signal, or it is not getting to the amp.

If you really have absolute silence then the most likely is that you have lose the 12v feed that powers the amp, either through a loose connection, dirty/burnt connector, or a duff power supply.

Womble it is great to see you here giving your expertise. I highly recommend anything Womble does... he deals with my stupid questions on regular occasions....

On topic though, I hope you get the sound working.

Then it would be in the wrong forums to ask him "Which came first.. the Egg or the Chicken".

Never the less... on the Outrun... I worked on one two weeks ago.. missing sound... I checked the plugs to find a hairline cracked solder joint.... I reflowed everything where the plugs plugged into... and fixed it.
