It is Revision B, no suicide battery, both boards in set light led up, both are receiving the appropriate 5 volts, but just lines and maybe flashes of color on the screen? No sounds. Sound amp has 14 volts. No sound output from boards. I have reached the extent of my abilities. What do I do now? Rest of the game looks real good cosmetically. Anybody repair these boards, or can confirm if it works? Any help appreciated

Try the simple stuff first:

You Have checked the voltages first >Great job!!!

Try cleaning and re seat the connectors first.

Try re seat the rom chips next.

look around for anything that look burnt or bulging (caps will do this)

May blow off pcb with some kind of air.

Report back.....

I did reseat all the chips. Visually the board looks real clean. No wiring has been hacked, all original. Hitting the TEST button sometimes makes the START button blink

I took boardset out, reseated all the chips, and brushed it off with a paintbrush, but its real clean. Cant find anything visually wrong with it. homestly, Im not certain the monitor works, it just comes up white with flashes of blue and lines. But I dont get any sounds out of the speakers, and amp has 14 volts. hooked a speaker directly to the board speaker outputs, no sound still.

Does anybody have a working Outrun, maybe I could send my boardset to to test?

I have 2 x outrun boards on hand i received last year. Each set has 2 boards. Asking $85 each plus shipping if u want them. Both look clean. I dont own an outrun cab to test them in. Once i get to test them then i will price accordingly $60-$150 each.

Tip: To see if your monitor works properly. Disconnect the game board connectors then turn the game on. Turn up the monitor brightness and if u see lines (raster) then the monitor works. If thats the case then u most likely have a board issue possible a power issue.

Start with the basics when you have a dead boardset...

1) Check power on the chips of the boards for proper 5v. When I used to own a Turbo version of Out Run it had 5v on the CPU board at the chips but not on the video board as the connector for power on the video board had burned.

2) Do you have an EPROM programmer? If not, you are stuck. You need to identify the Program ROMs and test those to see if any are corrupted/bad.

3) Once that is done you can then start checking access to the Program ROMs and Main CPU RAM with a logic probe to see if the address/data lines are not stuck and to see if the enable pins on the Program ROMs/Main CPU RAMs are working properly.

Thanks for the offer Kjoel, I may get a board off ya. it seems that the monitor is working fine. I turned the brightness up and down, and it appears bright white, with horizontal lines. I just hate to buy your board and it not work either, ya know.

Is there anybody that can confirm if a board works? I just. Ant justify spending 100 bucks for what might be a broken board, which I already have. Could I buy it off you, and if it doesnt work, return it and get a refund minus 25 for your trouble? Think of it as a free way to get your board tested!!!

I have jcarcade who will test the boards problem is that he is in the next state. When i pass through nj i will stop on by at that time.

Its hard to know what to do in this situation. Every other game I have worked on has had parts available for the most part. There seem to be no working Outrun PCBs for sale other than one on the UK Ebay for over 300 bucks, and thats rediculous. This game is definetely in restorable condition, but I dont feel like I should restore it if it will never work. I maybe should just hang the marquee on the wall and take the cabinet to the dump

I will pass on the untested board, but thanks for offering Kjoel. If you can verify one of them working, i will pay the 160 then, just dont wanna just throw 100 bucks away to have another broken boardset

Is this the sit down version?

Can you post a pic of the board connected?

here is a link to the schematics

It is a standup version. I just pulled the board prior to reading this post, but it was connected correctly, if thats what your asking. Thank you for the link to the schematic, but I have one already, that I found behind the marquee!! I will be sending the board off for repair by someone more skilled in board repair than I am.
I look forward to playing a few games, before I take the whole, thing apart to do a full resto. i know its not a high demand game, but I really enjoy restoring these games, and this one Im gonna keep for myself. Probably will end up with more in it than its worth, after new side art, paint, plastics, steering wheel, t molding, blah blah blah!!!!!! Heres hoping for an easy repair( and also hoping that the board is broke, so that the problem isnt somewhere else!!!)

I understand the dilema. Sold one of the board sets. Good luck in getting it working. I had the same issue 4 years ago and ended up buying a second cab to fix mine.

You know, the weakest part of these games is the cab. I have thought about making the Cadash cabs I need from marine grade plywood and yes it would cost more that I could get for it but it would last. Water would not hurt it.
