BLUF: Where do I get a replacement spring for an Outrun Gas Pedal?

Picked up my first dedicated arcade, got all the servos calibrated and zeroed and tuned the monitor. However, I have discovered the gas pedal doesn't spring all the way back up when released. Is there someplace I can go to get a replacement part? Relatively new on the arcade side (deep in pinball). Anything else I should be doing while I have it apart?

Thanks all!

Great picture btw.

I'd say pull the pedal assembly from the back is the cab and remove the spring and head down to your local hardware store.

Okay... after waiting for my springs to come in and taking a look again pre-install, I realized the spring wasn't my problem. The hinge for the gas pedal was my problem. If you told me that hinge had been retrieved from a sunken WW2 submarine I would have believed you as it was rust city. After removing the pedal, using wd-40, playing with it 30 minutes on a walk, and then putting bike chain oil on it it pops up every time. In other words I didn't need a new spring, just proper maintenance on a 38 year old commercial hinge.

Now, I still have an issue with the gas pedal, but I'm 90% sure it is the potentiometer. Now, even after adjusting the pots and centering the calibration in test, the values are not stable and I have the issue where you have to play with the pedal to get gas to register. Any ideas? I'm going to just throw a couple of replacement pots on otherwise.

Thanks!

I had the same issue and it was the potentiometer. Most folks would tell you opt for the "good" one which was around $25 if I recall.

Okay, I replaced the potentiometer and everything works like it should. It is a relatively replacement and could be done in a pinch with electrical tape and wire snippers. I used solder and electrical tape (to keep the ends from touching each other.

For random strangers reading this years from now for troubleshooting tips, here is what I did.

1st problem: Gas pedal doesn't pop up all the way.
Solution: Put a crap ton of WD-40 and then bicycle chain oil on the gas pedal hings (level of difficulty on scale of 1-10: 1)

2nd problem: Potentiometer was giving wild signals.
Symptoms: pressing the gas pedal gave intermittant results. If you go to calibrate it it was jumping all over hte place.
Solution: Replace the potentiometer. (difficulty: 4). This involved taking the pedal assembly out (easy), removing the grounding wire and unhooking the connector (2, phillps screwdriver). Removing the old potentiometr (look at it 2 minutes, easy (pliers/screwdrivers). Clean the crap out of everything you can reach (easy). Solder old wires in same place on new potentiometer, use electrical tape to insulate ends afterwards (shrink tubing would be better) (4 Medium). Reinstall.

3rd: After reinstalling and calibrating, all worked, but pedal was slow to rise. I found that the part where the potentiometer meets the gear is adjustable, and I had to "loosen" it a little bit. Afterwards it popped right back up.

Game is now 100% from a playing perspective. Now to fix the cosmetics.

Loving the game!
