OK folks, a TON of people I know have asked for this and today while I was at Shanman's I was able to get a good look at an original. I was surprised to see it was made from polystyrene. Not that this is a bad thing, but the people that made the originals didnt properly form it so that the sides were buckling and cracking due to the side walls being WAY too thin. So, after I saw it I was able to determine that the dash is made from .090 Styrene and I will be using HIPS. This is a stronger version that was not available in the 1980's. The silver was painted onto the dash and the clear coated. Simple to do.

That said I would like to know feedback from people before I start if I should offer other colors or make it an order-the-color-you-want project. Yes I could do ABS and then paint it silver and give it the same look as a car dash with the hair-cel texture too. The possibilities are endless. The mold will be done in a week or so. Possibly sooner if I get some good weather.

So what do you all think? Should we do a list?

BTW I forgot to add that the list is only people interested. I am not going to take any money up front and I will have a whole stack ready to ship once i get at least 10-15 done. So there is no risk. Once paid they will ship in 2-5 days.. depends on if I have the car or the wife.

I estimate the cost to be around $50 plus shipping...

I'll be in for at least 1, maybe 2 (1 for me, 1 for a friend's machine).

Are you planning on doing the matching plastic monitor bezel? Those always have cig burns on them...have yet to see a totally clean one. I think it'd be best to do them both if possible, I think you'd get a lot of sales of them as a set. Every Out Run I've seen could stand to have both replaced.

I have both a control panel and monitor bezel that I'd be happy to send you to use as the basis...they're in pretty good shape overall but have a few issues...

I hadnt planned on the bezel as well but It can be done. Whip the tape measure out and lets see the size of it. Wow that sounded all wrong. I need to make sure it will fit the table.

I have a dash local but the bezel if it fits the table I can use to take a mold from yes.

Wow, this would be a great offering to this scene!

I have dreams of a sit down but have had it on my radar to get an upright if I can find a good deal on a nice upright (no painted sides)

I had a project one that I had to ditch cause it had seen too much water.

I am interested if you're talking about the silver plastic dash for an upright OutRun.

I'm not interested in any custom colors or textures... just a straight reproduction (from high-impact polystyrene) please.

ok, I am going to do the UR anyway people want it done. Can I do the mini? Yes.. But I dont have the control panel part. If someone wants to donate one for molding you will get the original plus 2 back. Thats my thing.

I am going to hold off on using NOS pieces Mylstar for making vac form molds. If something goes wrong, never has, but you never know... I dont want to be the ass that ruined it. I have a good one here to use for molding. Its cracked but I am going to be able to use it no worries.

OK guys, still waiting to see if the bezel size will fit my table(s)

I'll get you measurements off mine later tonight. And I've got one available to ship to you to use as a model. Can also ship you a decent control panel if you want one that isn't cracked.

OK sounds good. Lets see the measurement of the bezel first and then we will decide what to do. The dash will be done and done first.

YAY!

It's 23 3/4" wide and roughly 21" high (I didn't loosen the CP and actually take it out to measure flange- to-flange exactly).

Mine's in pretty good shape... no need for me to get on the list for this.

Exact measurements of one that is out of the cabinet:

Width - 23 1/2 "
Height - 22 1/16"

At the deepest, if you lay it flat, it is 5.5". That's from the bottom piece that sticks out under the map, but that part doesn't fully extend to the back. But because other sections do extend back, the effective depth of one laying down flat is 5.5". (make sense?)

I can go ahead and ship you one to use as a guide. Same for the control panel...need the exact measurements for one of those?

OK, thanks for the measurements. It is actually easier to mold the cracked CP so no on that one. If you have the bezel all off the machine then yes please go ahead and ship it when you have time. No rush on it!

PM me for Addy
