Looking for what was "original" on OutRuns uprights...

The floormat/pedal area: grey? or black?

The pedals themselves: bare metal? or black?

I believe it was black flooring w/ chrome pedals.

On my HUO completely original Outrun with just a few hundred plays on it had grey flooring
with chrome pedals.

BTW, I dont have my HUO Outrun anymore for those that are interested but I wish that
I still did. Im not interested in passing on who I sold it to as I would like to get it back
myself one day. It wasnt sold to a regular collector like us but just someone who had
Outrun as his favorite game back in the day and who wanted just that one machine.

Ken.

Those front edge and side guard pieces appear to be aluminum or stainless though. The pedal area looks nice with good chrome.

I uploaded a pic of the pedal area from my old home use only machine:

Ken.

Thanks for the pic! It and your testimony have sealed it for me.

My pedals were spray painted black some time over the years. I'm going to strip the paint off and try to polish them up. Or if they're too rusty, I guess I'll have to have them plated somewhere...

As far as the floor mat goes... mine is black. It may not have been original, but it's in good shape and looks pretty nice, so I think I'll leave it for now. I'll keep my eye open for some original-looking grey material, though, for future use.

The chrome on my gas pedal wasn't good so I took it to bare metal and clear coated it. Doesn't look as good as chrome but looks good enough until I have enough stuff to make it worth plating. See pic for comparison of plated (brake) and clear coated (gas).

I almost want to say that Ive seen some black mats on Outruns that looked original
but I cant say for sure. Maybe some had black while others had grey? Games have always
been known to have revisions over a production run, especially big production runs on
popular games.

I will say that the overwhelming majority Ive come across have been grey matted.

Anyways, I uploaded the rest of the pics of my old HUO Outrun:

Thanks for the additional pics, Ken.

Looking at them, I've noticed that I'm missing the screw that holds in the emblem in the middle of the steering wheel. (Guess that 'splains why there's a hole in it...) It's a wonder mine is still there with no screw. Digging through the manual, it looks like it's an M4x25... to the hardware store!

Another thing I've been wondering about: on the bottom of the accelerator pedal, there a bracket of sorts, with slots in it. It kinda looks like a bolt of some sort might have been there (perhaps to prevent the pedal from being lifted upward). Anybody have anything installed there on their OutRun?

VideoGameParts.com has a bunch of the security screws that Sega used. I picked some up while I was already getting stuff from him. You could probably buy cheaper in quantity from Grainger, but it's easy to find on his site.
