CL - 3rd Party OutRun Cockpit!?! Near Orlando FL

Score!

So I'm curious as to how you moved it? Also was it complete? Give us a few more pictures when time permits 👍🏻
First surprise, it was a 40ish year old dude. I completely assumed it was a lady from the way the ad was written. He bought the house 2 years ago. He asked the previous owner about the Outrun Game in the garage and they left it for him. He had intended to get it working and never did. I'm betting it was sitting in this garage for 20 years. It was so dirty, I thought it was just a cabinet.

I went alone with uHaul's 6x12 enclosed trailer, the biggest they rent. I took a 6 foot load bar, a jack and furniture dollies.
I was able to get it out of the garage and to the trailer but it would not fit. The seller was super helpful with loading. We even removed the adjustable feet and the casters, which were mangled. It was just about 2 inc hes away from fitting. Could not get it in the uHaul so I drove 2.5 hours home to return the uHaul and get my 8 foot open trailer.

I came back with 2x12 lumber and a come-a-long (hand winch). I used the lumber as slides on the trailer ramp and winched it on the trailer with the come-a-long. That part was easy. I had 2 plus hours to drive with a big threat of rain. I was constantly looking for places to pull into in case it started to rain with weather radar open on my phone. I was really blessed to have a corridor open the whole drive home.

Yesterday I welded some heavier casters and installed them. I can now push it around. I was surprised to see it is pretty complete. The seller was told it has a bad transformer, so I'll start there this week. I cleaned her up a bit and I'm pleased.

It took a couple hours to remove the rope lights, sirens and flashing lights, cup holders, fuzzy dice and various other auto store crap like lighted foot pedals that someone had adorned her with. There has been some modification on the wall side of the cabinet, probably to make a flat space to mount all of the Dale Earnhart memorabilia and other junk sitting on top. This mod was not done well, but should be an easy fix.

I did a little cleaning, I will update when I know more.IMG_0530.JPGIMG_0541.JPGIMG_0542.JPG

Solid work my Friend, especially removing all the crap decorations. Wow check out the exhaust that thing is awesome. Why is the base so crazy looking, does that beast have motion or something?

It's gotta be motion and I'm super stoked about that. I was a young Marine in Japan when this game was at peak popularity; never dreamed I'd own one.

This one had/has a spaghetti plate full of extension cords throughout the cabinet.
They were all supplying power to the external crap he had on it.
Also, extension cords were used to wire his switches (power on, credits, turbo).
I'm still cleaning things up.

Can anyone recommend a source to educate myself about this unit ?
or a repair shop in Central Florida ?
I want to be careful not to create more damage.

There is some technical information at the bottom of this page.

Probably need to find the wiring diagram in a manual. Looks like they tapped the AC mains line for that extension cord. If all the downstream stuff connected to that extension cord was the "accessories", may just be able to remove it and be done with it.

Have you tried powering it up, does it do anything (ie. marquee lights, sounds, etc). I usually keep it in the garage to make sure no critters, etc. Check to see if the power plug has the ground cord and if it doesn't, thats the first thing I do is change it to have a ground plug and follow the AC lines and ground line to make sure its properly connected internally.

Not yet, but that's the goal this week.

Here is the manual

At this point, the only thing that the board needs to check basic functionality is the 5V and the video connector. You can disconnect anything else. In the photo below are the two power connectors (purple) and the video connector (yellow)

The game may complain if the motion is disconnected, so I would set the DIP to upright cabinet (see manual). Once you get proper video, you can start connecting the control harness, motion and audio. You can set the DIP to Moving cabinet at this stage.

Before powering up, check the 5v on the power supply with the board disconnected.

Good luck, I am envious…
