Hello everyone!

Just joined the forum, I am a long time classic arcade guy. i just inherited and really nice OutRun upright arcade machine. Just a few minor fixes, and one thing I hope I can get help with on here. In gameplay, the graphics dont appear to be drawing properly. I attached photos. If you notice in the two gameplay screens, the road appears as blue horizontal patches and multicolored lines. The main screens, startup and pregame, appear fine. Anyone know what could be causing just the road to appear like this? It should be ashpal with the while lines obviously. The game plays fine, i just cant see the road! I dont think its the monitor, it is in great shape.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Frank

Welcome the the forum..

Here a few things you might want to try to get your games back in running condition.

Have you pulled out a meter and check the voltages? Low voltages can cause condition like you have on the screen.

Have you gently reseat the eprom chips on the PCB. Make sure you fput support under the board as you attempt to reseat the Eprom/Rom

Have you verify the Eproms are working?

IF the screen glitch is always in the same place it might be the video ram.

Welcome to KLOV.

Alpha-tron gave you a good list of troubleshooting tips, and I would definitely start with those.

Next, have you tried the Memory Test diagnostic? It will tell you if one of the ROMs is bad. Problem with this diagnostic is that the ROMs are not reported correctly. At least this will tell you if there is a problem. If YES, then you need to find out what the correct "bad" ROM is. One way to do that is to get the Outrun upgrade mod from KLOV'r DarrenF. Awesome, awesome mod which you will want even if you have a working board. You can read the details here: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=196227

You'll notice that one of the cool features is that it fixes the problem with the Memory Test diagnostic and will report the correct ROM #'s. Woot!

You can install the mod by either burning a set of 4 eproms yourself (DarrenF has graciously made the code available free of charge) or you can have someone burn you a set. There is a KLOV'r who sells them on ebay as well: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Outrun-High...760?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item460bf89b38

Great game, and good luck getting it fixed! Oh, and one last tip....might get more help posting this in the General Repair and Help section. :)

Welcome.. You will prob have better results posting in the help section.. alot of people dont come to this section of the forum..
