Did they make a standup version of Outrun 2? I saw one on youtube, but I didn't know if that was a custom thing. If they exist how much do they run?

The only standup I know of is a version made for the Naomi Universal cabs. I've seen only seen one for sale, and it was in the UK. If you could find one, I think it would be expensive due to OR2 being such a quality game, and the Naomi upright would offer the game in a package suitable for many gamerooms, whereas the dedicated sitdowns take up too much room for most to consider them seriously.

Outrun 2 is a great game, got one in the basement.

Would consider selling it though(for the right price), brand new monitor and game is in great shape.

Outrun 2 runs on the "Chihiro" hardware

...so it isn't a Naomi hadrware based game. They MAY have done one in the universal cabinet, but i have never seen any information on one and you would really want to have it in a sit down cabinet anyway. Many of the Sega upright racers (like Daytona and Sega Rally) don't have force feedback. I have a Sega Rally upright in my collection, and although fun, is just not as much fun as playing it on a sit down cabinet.

I have an Outrun 2 twin that i have converted into a "SP" special stages model, which doubles the number of courses, cars and music. I am only aware of five different Outrun 2 cabinets. The original red twin (which has a common header), the original red single (which has a built in marquee above the screen), the original Outrun2 deluxe motion cabinet, the (different) yellow cabinet for the dedicated "SP" special stages version (which can be used as a single or linked with multiples without a common header, as the marquee is part of the single cabinet), and finally the super insane deluxe SP model which features replicas of four of the cars with seating for two in each of the linkable deluxe units. You can find pics of this online, and the only one that i have ever seen in person was at the Gameworks in Las Vegas...

Yes, I know it was on Chihiro. The beauty of the Naomi Universal cab is that it can be adapted to run many board configurations. The fact that Chihiro and Naomi are both JVS makes it dead simple to run either in a uni.

As such, the Naomi Unis got used for Chihiro games overseas. Sega released different colored plastics (Red for OR2, drab green for Ghost Squad, yellow for Ollie King, blue for Virtua Cop 3, etc.) and dedicated controls usable with the uni for all the various Chihiro games.

As for OR2 in an upright, I agree it is a watered down experience. However, it is only slightly less desirable in that it does not offer force feedback steering. Otherwise, a Naomi uni set up for drivers with the seat rail attachment is pretty close to the full sitdown experience in a fraction of the space.

Upright OutRun2

Hey Radiac, you do hang out here!

Yes OR2 was available in limited numbers in the UK in a Naomi universal cab. Much like a Crazy Taxi upright, but not as nice as it didn't come with the sub-woofer fitted. Red plastics were fitted though and a marquee was produced - I have a couple :)

No force feed back steering is lame with OR2 so the game loses a lot of it's appeal in upright format. CT on the other hand just seems to fit the upright cab well - the game seems to suit the casual thrash nature you get while playing an upright cab. Horses for courses as we say ove here! ;)

I have pics somewhere of the upright OR2 at launch if anyone's interested.

andy geezer built a OR2 upright ? i think on his website, I like the sitdown more for play, but the upright is just cool looking, but yeah without force feedback loses its appeal
