Hi all,

I replaced a PSU on my Out Run and I now have a issue with the graphics (see attached)
Any ideas ? I know I have 5v at the top and bottom boards and I've reseated ALL the ROMs
Also the ROM check passes

Any ideas ?

The issue at the top of the screen is a monitor problem.

The "stripes" appear to be only in the sprites. You sprite EPROMs are typically at locations IC9-IC16 on the bottom PCB. They should be labeled with 10371-10378. (but you may have a different version with more EPROMs for the sprites...)

In any case, as channelmani(a)c points out, those are not verified in diagnostic mode. Heck, I'm not even sure if they're addressable by the CPU(s). In any case, you could pull & verify them (using an EPROM programmer to read them). If the EPROM data is fine, you've got an issue somewhere if the sprite portion of the video hardware.

Thanks for the info, I'll reseat when I get home.

Any ideas where I can find replcement ROMs ?

Hopefully you'll be lucky and re-seating will fix the problem.

If not, anyone with an EPROM programmer can supply replacements. I wouldn't just go replacing EPROMs that might be perfectly good; I'd have someone read/verify them. Is QLD Queensland Austrailia? There's a pretty active Aussie contengent of arcade collectors. Perhaps someone can help you out.

Yep QLD is Queensland Australia :D Just don't know anyone with a programmer.

I'll try reseating tonight

also make syre your +5 is around 5.1 at the board. If its low, can cause issues too.

when you put in your psu did you do any soldering or wire stripping? If so make sure you dont have any rogue solder blobs or wire strands on the pcb stack.

Will do re the 5.1v

Didn't do any soldering at all

You can also try reflowing the solder joints to those ROMS. That's easier then trying to verify the programming.

No, do not do this, it is almost certainly a pointless excersise and makes future troubleshooting far harder.

How can that possibly make troubleshooting harder? I'm just talking about shoring up the existing solder contacts to make sure the roms are making good contact with the PCB.

If there was a flaky socket, it's likely the problem wouldn't be the solder joint between the socket pins and the PCB.
