Home Depot had a special purchase of cabinet grade 3/4" plywood for $24 per sheet. We bought 6 sheets. Then we used the cabinet as a jig and cut the sides.
Then we took measurements on all of the smaller boards and cut those out of the scrap wood from the sides. The speaker board that you see in the picture was cut out on our CNC machne.
Then where we couldn't use the cabinet as a jig, we used the CNC machine to make the jig to cut the handles on the top of the cabinet. We had to make a jig because the handles aren't cut all the way through.
Here is where we are today. We are in the process of assembling all of the pieces. Just thought you guys might enjoy seeing a build from scratch. I know I've enjoyed watching them in the past. That's what gave me the initiative to try this.
Made a little progress tonight. Got everything connected together. Also got the speaker board and back board put in. Took a little trial and error to get the correct angle to cut the boards. For anyone else doing this the back of the speaker board and the top of the back board have an 18 degree angle cut in them.
Probably not. I don't have a vinyl cutter (yet) and the cost of the stencils is just too high to make it profitable. I do have a large format printer, so I'll just print the artwork on vinyl and stick it on.
I originally thought the angle between the back board and the bezel supports was 90 degrees. Turns out it's actually about 89.5 degrees. So again I had to make a jig to get it right.
Finally got to work on it a little this weekend. I decided to make it a multicade, so I ordered some 60-in-1 boards. I also decided that I wanted it to be all new, so I ordered a new coin door and an LCD monitor. I had to come up with a mount for the LCD. Fortunately, the Dell monitor that I purchased had the perfect mount for it. The hole on the right allows you to easily remove the monitor.
very nice.. Are you installing a mame setup or going with original type equipment? There was a guy having a yard sale near me..he had what was left of a busted up Pac..included a fully populated control panel.
I'm installing the 60-in-1's. I will cut the control panel out on the CNC machine, so it won't be an exact replica, but I didn't want to run up the cost.
