Our call to the town that banned coin-op

Good example of how stupid local laws get introduced and passed. I think it there is more to it though. Probably lack of local taxes being collected so why not keep it banned.

One of our listeners created this video of our impromptu call to the Marshfield, MA city offices to try and get to the bottom of why coin-op was banned from their town since 1972. . . and still to this day.

so i just though of a priceless way to burn marshfield with this.

let's get keith apicary to do a talking classics there, and and have him towed around town on a trailer playing an arcade game.

i'm gonna be passing through marshfield multiple times next week, i'll have to see if i can find any redemption games or anything.

We are actually looking at bringing a game into town square (or main street) and setting it on free play and inviting people to play, all while filming. Checking out the laws and punishment so we know what we are in for.

You could get one of those Ms Pac/Galaga Reunion home-use cabs that only have a "coin door" sticker on the front and no actual coin door...would be hard to argue that's a coin-op game :D

check the text of the regulation or law, and any precedents that describe what is meant by (and accepted in a court of law) as COIN OPERATED.

here is an example:
http://definitions.uslegal.com/c/coin-operated-phonorecord-player-patents/

remove the coin door and coin box, set it to freeplay, and charge an admission fee instead.

then it is NOT coin operated as no currency or token or equivalent is used to start any game like a console

as a comparison, get some game consoles with the same games loaded to compare

atm, i think the closest games to that area are in alley kat bowling in kingston, papa gino's (if they still operate games), and on nantasket beach in hull (if they still have the arcade there). oops, forgot starland in hanover.
