We had a blast this weekend at my event but sadly it had to fall on the exact weekend of the IVGHOF big bang party. Friends like Ken House, John Mcallister, Eric Aikerson, Dave Nelson, Fred Ochs etc. Were missed. I did get some inside skinny that Roy shildt made a scene and was ejected from the convention center. Anyone over here present witness this or anything else interesting go down in Ottumwa?

I only have "edge" service on my iPhone so I gotta wait till I get home on Tuesday. I'll post pics video and my stories. Roy is a crazy dude! :)

Iowa really needs to get their cell phone service up to speed!

Sat. morning was the TIME magazine photo shoot re-enactment. Lots of the original crew was there. They did several versions of the re-enactment with vintage players, players that are classic champs but didn't make the shoot that day, new champions, and finally the public (just for fun). This was done on the same street as the original photo shoot.

In one of the shoots, Roy appeared on the street and asked if he was allowed to be in it. That was shocking, as I didn't know it was him at first. He knelt by one of the machines on the left-hand side, right next to Walter Day! Surreal to say the least. I think it would have been awkward for them to say "no" with a bunch of the crowd watching this take place. Later, I heard he was heckling the people at the entrance to the Bridge View Center where the event was held, telling them not to go in, and he was asked by security to leave.

when Roy Schilt showed up at the NW Pinball and Gameroon Show in 2009 he was barely recognizable from the KoK footage; he looked years older and had a walker to get around.

did Ken and John and Eric head out to the IVGHOF opening? those jerks, not inviting me along, leaving me stuck listening to a whole weekend of State Retirement Administrators discussing the state of the economy. bleh.

Wow that's pretty crazy. He certainly wasn't very old in KoK so I wonder what happened?

Yeah, he had a walker and looked pretty different from the movie. I had heard (rumor alert) that steroids screwed him up bad and that he was now an advocate for not using them.

Yeah, they were all there :)

Yes. Oh, and I did recall seeing him wearing an orange shirt with "Mr. Awesome" on the back of it.

Thanks! My first CAX was at the old venue in San Jose in 2007 the year KOK came out. I was standing in line Friday night at the Crowne Plaza waiting to register for my room in a line of 5 or 6 people. An "older" guy wearing suspenders and a red shirt, using a cane and having obviously more trouble getting around than you or I walked right in front of me (I was first in line). I said, "Excuse me sir, but the end of the line is back there." and he walked to the back. I'd been waiting 5 or 10 minutes and this douche wants to cut the line? I don't think so. I had my first encounter with Mr. Awesome. :) The next day at the show I'm playing Missile Command at the machine nearest the entrance (there were 3 URs that year) that the trac ball rolled so poorly I would not have brought it were it mine. He walks up with the same cane and asks me if that machine is "any good?" I told him no, he tried it quickly and moved on. Later that weekend I saw him being taped polaying a game on "tournament settings" no bonus cities, just the 6 you start with. I think he got ~800,000. I asked someone who it was and learned for the first time. I think this is the wonders of makeup and Hollywood. I don't know how old he was in 2007, but I'd say he looked at least mid 50s maybe older. Good M.C. player in any case...

Big Bang was a Father and son Event

The Big Bang was absolutely cool. I have done the majorityof things in the hobby with support of my kids and wife, but in their absence. My son accompanied me to the event each day. He and I competed in some of the contests. While I was making friends in the old school arcade and console area he was having a blast doing his thing in the Bring your own consol area for 360s and other modern platforms.

Before judging the town by its populaton size give it a chance. This isn't really a shopping destination, but for a father and a son this place is fantastic. Ottumwa still has a fair amount of places to eat and visit including PAC MAN PARK!

My son was absolutely content to hang out with me and allow me to do my thing. I was happy watching him to his, and we occassionally competed with and against each other. The girls in my house weren't all that interested in attending. That must be the trend. There could have been more than 30 women in the building at any given time.

Other than Mr. Awesome there was no controversy. It was just a bunch of fun. I met some really great guys and learned a whole lot more about the history of these machines and their populairty.

The induction ceremony was a real learning experience. Listening to the legends of classic gaming talk about what gaming means to them was a real eye opener. Everyone is a gamer for different reasons. I might just try to slow down on the buying, selling, and trading for awhile and just play the machines...Until they break down.

Your wifes and daughters should be encouraged to come. Girls that have the level of interest to be entertained by this kind of thing should come to the event, but if shopping is a must there are many places within 60 minutes of easy driving that will quench the shopping bone. Fun City is an hour away and the coral ridge mall a little farther. Both of these places are nice and well worth visiting if you'd are interested in shopping or fun parks.

Don't make the mistake of not taking your kids. My son and I were absolutely entertained and happy the entire time. To have my son not want to leave a place that I actually enjoyed was a great feeling.

Don't listen to the Poo Poo people. This event is in the right place. Take a couple of steps in Ottumwa, the pace is a little slower outside the venue, but it was an absolute joy.

Walter's usually friendly to people's faces... only stabs them in the back when they're not around....

I keep seeing this same statement from you. Instead of being vague, why don't you go to this thread and enlighten us with your personal back-stabbing experiences with Walter?

...or perhaps you can go discuss Walter Day all you want on your own website where you control the content and choose what and where people post.

I have no first-hand knowledge of Roy's "obsession" with Walter... I do, however have first-hand knowledge of Walter's obsession with Roy and "disproving" his score. It's sad.

Again, I'm asking you to elaborate. This is the third time I've seen a vague statement from you about these experiences, yet you seem to just want to put out one-shot flames that attack his person without any explanation behind it.

And the first time anyone said anything about an "obsession" was you, just then.

Again, I invite you to explain your experiences here: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=145037

i invite him to share right here if he wants to. this is interesting stuff!
