So I have an Omega Race cockpit game. Of course none of the 4 boards I have are without acid damage. Anyone have any suggestions on what else might be fun to have in there? It's buried deep in my garage so I'm in no hurry. Just wondering what others think.

Agreed. Not many of those are left so converting it would be so wrong on many levels. Granted it is your decision, but you did ask for outside opinions.

OK - Sounds fair. Who is good (and reliable) at repairing the boards? I was told that the monitor was working. I also know where there are 2 more of these in GA that are probably for sale. I like that you guys say restore it. I'm not a huge Omega Race fan but it might be cool in a cockpit. I'd prolly enjoy Star Trek more but it would be as big a challenge to do that (unless I ZVG it - hmmm).

I'm seeing the temperament of your posts, and I'm going to save you some future lost time, regret, and dust collection with a suggestion: sell it.

Your first inclination was to convert it. You're not in love with the game (understandable; Omega Race is like that). Life happens, and restoring it is never gonna be your priority #1...which, in this hobby, usually means it won't get done. Sell it, let someone else save it, get some $$ and spend it on a game you love.

Step 1: PM Omegaman to fix your boards. Send ALL FOUR boards to him. Let him keep 3 as payment, and fix 1 for you.

Step 2: Sell Omega Race cockpit to MNRocketry. He needs one so he can have all four types.

Step 3: Be happy.

:D

You could make a planter out of it.

Or you could slap some Star Wars sideart on there and get everybody excited when they first see it.

or better yet, some Crystal Castles sideart. I heard that one size fits all.

I'd say get the Boards repaired. Omegaman in the UK has been great about
fixing Omegarace boards.

I'd personally try to save it if I had the room, but I like the game a lot.

if you do decide to sell it.. You'll probably have plenty of buyers.
I'll take one of the boardsets. I'll get it repaired and use it as a spare:)
Can never have enough spares for this game.

Where are these buyers? I can't even get a hint of interest from anyone...:(

I got this one cheap when a store closed in Tucker, GA liike 6 years ago (that's a hint as to where I got it). I'll contact Omegaman about the boards. That will prolly be the deciding factor for me.

Al, don't stress over it, I can fit it on the truck/trailer when I come visit in December :)

A nice conclusion?

I think that I have found a nice conclusion to this thread. I was at a party last night and a guy mentions that this was on his "Holy Grail List" so I offered it to him cheap!

I was thinking along the lines of a 6100 monitor and a ZVG card so it would play Star Trek, but this is less work and a guy gets a treasure. And it's unconverted.

You shall be rewarded in heaven for not "maiming" the cabinet. Talon2000 in these forums does omega race boards as well. I have seen a board set where he ran individual wires for numerous acid damaged traces that had to number at least 30-40. It was a very clean repair and not spaghettied everywhere.

It is one of my grails as well. Definately worth saving.

Groffdaddy, if yours is still available come tax time, we will be talking ;)

The story ends here...

A guy came by and picked up the game today. The new owner had some incredible tragedies recently and this game is his "Grail". I had 4 bad pcbs and 1 aux board so that went with it. Hopefully he'll be able to get one working. I was told that the monitor was good, but I've never had the game open or tested anything. I'm happy because it's not in my garage anymore and it's found a home with someone who will cherish it.
