I got one of these recently, non-working. The previous owner said it was working fine, then the picture got really small before turning off. Sounds like a HOT/flyback issue to me, figured I'd start by recapping and replacing those.

I've never worked on one of these before, so just trying to get oriented. Looks like I have a Philips built one, but there may still be different models of chassis inside it. Do they share the same flyback/hot/caps, and if not, how do I tell which one I actually have?

Also, is there a place to get the parts I need? I looked around and saw some stuff on eBay, but not the usual selection of stores like I'm accustomed to for arcade monitors.

i haven't decided whether i will do cap kits for these (maybe in the future) because i know of two different models for cap lists and there might be more. i am pretty sure Ian is making a cap kit for these but i am not sure about other parts so i would check with him see if he knows anymore.

FYI, Ian Kellogg is the only one doing full cap kits for the commodore line of monitors! :)

haha, That explains why no one ever bought the kit. The damn thing was in the wrong category. I have the 1084S-P done. I think there is another version or two that is slightly different. I can do others, just have to ask.

I've got at least 3 of those things laying around here. No clue which manufacturer made any particular one, as I've never taken one apart. Kinda wish you were close enough that you could pick one up. Considering how many parts/etc I've gotten for next to nothing, I wouldn't mind parting with a monitor for a fellow KLOVer.

Commodore released only about 4,000 models of monitors during this period, about half of which were 1084 variants, so it should be easy:

I wish you luck.

My tip is you should trouble shoot it, not blindly replace caps.

Or assume the HOT and fly are bad.

Check your standby voltages.

Here's the Manuel.

I'd love to do that, which is why I'm asking how to tell which of the eight chassis that manual covers is the one I have? How do I tell if it's an early or late revision of that chassis, both of which have different schematics?

Screened on the PCB? Serial number sticker on back?

numbers on pcb. The features the set has.

Look at the power supply which one match's the picture.

also does this one have a push button mechanical switch to turn on chassis

or a small push button temporary switch?

yours could be the one that only the ac and bridge rectifiers are on

and theres the one that all in one supply? it has the smps and bridge rectifiers

both should be separate from the main board.

all this will send you to the correct schematic in the manual 6523

the 3108 xxxx etc and 8cm check them.

from there you need to check your secondary voltages

let us which schematic uses your major parts

like vertical ic, video processor ic these will define more of which

schematic for your chassis.

Did you check the power switch yet?

more of a mechanical issue with the sw
should be able to push and hold and the monitor work.

its common problem since the beginning.

you can bypass it, if you like.

if that's good I would compare the voltages to the schematic.

and see what's missing.

If still interested in fixing.

Good Luck!
