OT: Best Lan gaming game?

all this talk makes me wanna play q2 again, anyone else up for some online?

I'm in for this! I don't even remember the level name we always played anymore, but it contained a big spiral staircase type thing. We also had all goofy custom characters, Gumby, Homer Simpson, and a R/C car.

Very fun.

Off the top of my head Battlefield 2, unreal 99, counter strike,TF2, COD, COD united offensive, COD modern warfare, are the games we play the most at the LAN parties I go to.

16 player Halo parties on the Original Xbox. Those were good times. Had a Team of 8 people down in the basement and the other Team upstairs. Online gaming killed LAN parties. :(

That is exactly the way we have played Halo for the last 9 years. Its still a lot of fun if you can get enough guys together. I really prefer eight players, so everybody has a split screen. This last year we haven't played much since Reach came out.

Online gaming sucks. I just love sitting by myself, in front of a TV trying to communicate with somebody else through a mike. wow is that fun.

Its so much more fun to know where your other teammates are by just glancing at their screen. Not to mention its so much more fun to be surrounded by friends when playing. The bad jokes, stories of great fights and dumb moves, talk about Sci Fi and gaming that go on in between games and after. It really can't be beat.

Duke Nukem was soooo fun. Many, many times I and a total of about 5-8 co-workers would stay after work on a Friday night, order pizza, and play Duke Nukem and foosball until anywhere from 3 to 6 AM Saturday morning. You always knew it was a great time when you walked out to the car and the sun had already risen!

Other games were fun too (Descent, Quake 1 & 2, etc.), but nothing matched Duke Nukem.

Thinking back, there was another one that we didn't play for long but it was memorable because it was super gory. I think it rode DN's coattails. Anyone remember the name?

I agree with the comment about online gaming. It has never had much appeal to me. It is a definite step downward from LAN gaming.

The best was the "ridicule" feature. I don't remember any other game having it at the time. I remember constantly hitting my F5 key to get the "You're an inspiration for birth control!"

...<sigh>.

We used to play Quake 2 a lot, and I was going to try it again this time but apparently the copy I had need the CD and I'm not sure where i put it. Its prob in my car somewhere because that Soundtrack is f'in AWESOME just to listen to.

The final patched version no longer needs the CD as a key.

If you are looking into something different, try out Micrsoft's Combat Flight Sim, Pacific Theater. You'll need decent flight sticks to properly dogfight, but nothing beats shooting down Zeros with a P-40 or a Hellcat!
Definetely works better with more peeps, but have played it with just four of us at times.

We have played this before online as well, and let's just say that shooting down (or getting shot down by) Zeros with Japs actually flying them really gets the blood pumping!
