Just curious, since I know theres prob a lot of lan gamers in here...what are some of the best titles to do lan gaming with? Networking Doom started me into the IT field that I work in today, and I've been hosting small lan parties here and there for over a decade (can't believe im saying that). That said we've mostly played Quake 3 Arena since 99 or so when it was released.

Anyhow, I've been wondering if there's anything newer/better out there, and it seems Quake 3 is still VERY relevant even moreso now that ID has made an online only version of it (QuakeLive).

For those that do this...what games are the most popular?

Rush 2049 SE...... :)

You can link up to 8 via a lan...

Yea I have 4 Rush The Rocks linked via router and that is a whole lot of good times!

But as far as computer games, my brother in NC, a friend of ours in Columbus and myself still play Age of Empires, with the Conquerers Expansion pack almost weekly. It is still a good challenge after all these years!

Usually I set up a CTF match using the Space CTF level but all my friends "hate" it lol. I think its awesome! (map q3ctf4)

I love doing some UT99

Tribes is some old school fun.

original starcraft is ALWAYS fun

Back when I would visit LAN parties we would play a lot of Unreal Tournament and Counterstrike.

Half Life is also good, and most of the other source games.

Warcraft 2. That was the first game that actually got us to haul our computers to various apartments to play.

I'll never forget one game, when I heard an insane chorus of "Who summed me?" coming from one of the other guy's computers. As I was wiped out, I walked over to his pc, and he had 45 mage towers. You did not want to play against him.

I haven't done a lot of LAN gaming since doing my gameroom, but it used to be Far Cry and the PC version of Halo. Death Island for Halo is a great level.
Far Cry has pretty big levels and would be fun because you'd creep around for like 20 minutes before a firefight.

We've been playing some net games of Left4Dead2, which is pretty fun co-op.

...

I recently purchased 4 computers and downgraded them to windows 98se, installed 3dfx cards in them and networked them all.
Fun stuff, been playing Heretic, Hexen, Heretic II, Duke 3D, Doom II, Quake I, II, III, Unreal Tournament, Blood 3D as well just some single player games like Die By the Sword, etc. Good times!

Among my friends at least, the RTS fix is Alpha Centauri and the FPS favorites are Shadow Warrior and Rise of the Triad, with the occasional Redneck Rampage thrown in for fun. :)

16 player Halo parties on the Original Xbox. Those were good times. Had a Team of 8 people down in the basement and the other Team upstairs. Online gaming killed lan parties. :(
