one of the items that's been missing from my toolbag for a really long time, some 30 awg wire, is next to impossible for me to strip without cutting the wire in half.

I suppose using electronic shears isn't the best plan of attack to begin with lol, but I was wondering what tools any of you use for stripping this uber thin wire.

I use a small, sharp pair of side cutters to do it. It's easier to strip if you turn 'em around and use them opposite the way you usually do...

I've always used a pair of shears similar to what billybob posted (or another pair with an adjustable nut for the gauge). When the wire gets that small though, I usually just score the insulation with a small blade and pull it off instead of bothering with shears.

I'll have to give some of these a try. I've been tinkering with boards where the solder pads are gone on them. had some other stuff where I had to replace traces, and that's kinda difficult with 22 awg wire... but I made it happen on a U5000 neckboard lol

Buy a wire wrap tool. The center of the tool has a tiny little V slot that is used to strip it.

I second the wirewrap tool's stripper. It strips the kynar (super stretch) insulation nice and clean. Easy to use.

Check Radio Shack 276-1570. When I bought it, the back end was removeable - inside the body tool was a thin hand stripping tool made specifically for this wire type and size.
(For real wire wrapping - I used to use an Ideal 'Click-and-strip' tool. Haven't found it in years, though.)

Make a notch in one of the blades of an old wire snips you don't care about. Just big enough for the conductor of the wire. stick the wire in that notch, hold the snips closed and pull.

I usually use a Paladin Stripax Pro 6 for my wire stripping but for 30awg I just regular wire cutters and just gauge the squeeze and pull to the side. Takes practice but once you get used to it you won't need special strippers for 30awg.

I second the strip-all. For fine wire or easily nicked wire, it can't be beat.

Blue Point PWC 6 (you can over squeeze it to strip smaller than 20ga)

I tried this method. worked like a charm actually. so I'll be ready when the time to do jumper work comes heh
