Ok so the tv has been perfect for the past three years until yesterday. I turned the tv on and got sound, but no picture so I turned it off and back on and fixed! Tonight I get home and I turn the tv on same thing. So I turn it off, wait a little bit, turn it back on and still no picture. When I turned it off this time a red light lit up. While it was on I could hear one of the fans kicking on/off every few seconds so I am thinking the fan needs to be changed because it's really loud!

Anyone have any ideas on where to start? I have several CRT monitor, but never been inside of a flat screen. I would have someone come look at it, but I am really thinking it is something simple like a bad fan causing this thing to go into shut down/protect mode.

caps, buddy. pisses me off, my grandparents had a 36" Sony Trinitron with the same problem, even the focus was going on it. pisses me off, cause with what I know now about repairing arcade monitors, I could've fixed that TV and kept it for myself.

oh well. :(

friend of mine was telling me last night that he got a 52" Vizio for free cause it would turn on and randomly shut off, etc. (he works for Magnolia) and he wound up re-capping the power supply himself. half of them were blown he said.

but yeah, free TV huh. ;)

open that sucker up, follow the power cord down the rabbit hole.

Is this a DLP flat screen? More than likely it is the bulb that needs to be replaced. Should be a panel in the back to unscrew and pull the bulb housing as one whole piece. Have a 52" Mitsubishi that I had to replace the bulb and temp sensor to get back up running again.

It is the rear projection flat screen. What worries me is that I can hear one of the fans turning on/off within seconds of each other.

Question: I was thinking of capping the PS board anyways if I have to open it up. So where do I get the cap list for this thing?

Sounds exactly like the bulb is out. I found a replacement for mine ($99 I think) and it has been fine since. 4 screw's, pull out the old, in with the new, replace screws.

Is it normal for a bulb to do that before fully going out? Working sometimes and not others?

What worries me the most is the red light that came on when I turned the tv off.

The Toshiba DLPs change the power light specifically to tell you the status of the bulb and fan, and fail before going out completely just like you are describing. Look in the manual (should be online if you don't have one) about the red light and what it is telling you. The fan could be clogged with dust too if it's making that much noise. Clean everything when you replace the bulb and you should be good to go.

Ok I just pulled the bulb and the damn thing looks perfectly fine so how do I tell if it is bad? Anyways put the setup back in, plugged tv back in, turned on nothing, turned back off and red light comes back on which mitsu site says is replace bulb lol.

Does the TV sound like it is clicking as well as a fan going on and off? If you also hear the clicking noise, that is the ballast trying to light the bulb. Buy a new bulb and go from there. Those bulbs I believe are only rated to last 2-3 years anyways.

Could be a Lamp does it look foggy alittle.
Whats the Led indications
Just the Red Lamp led lit?
If no error code press Menu and input at the same time for 5 second.
Reminder you can't press power untill it stops blinkingafter plugin or
between start up.
because its booting up after 65 seconds, then press power.
Is this the WD-73735 or WD-73736 Wd-73835 or WD73C8
Good Luck!

No clicking just the fan turning on/off semi-rapidly. It sounds like a bomb falling from the sky every so often when the fan shuts off *I think its the fan making this noise?*.

The bulb is very blurry can't see thru it hardly at all. The green light comes on/stays on when the TV is on which is normal *shows power* and when I turn the TV off a red light comes on/stays on *support site says this means bulb replace or something*. It is the WD 73733 and I plan on ordering the bulb/assembly today for $85 so hopefully that is the only thing wrong with it.

So new light/housing comes in, I try to put it in, but it won't go all the way! Compare to the original and it is slightly smaller and won't work. Well the bulb has to be the same I think so I pull the new casing apart *breaking the damn tabs* and take the original apart. Well the base of the new light is a little different so the damn thing wouldn't sit in the housing right!!!!!!!! Guess the dremel and glass grinding bit is coming out and the gloves!

73" tv update!

Got the new bulb/casing in, but didn't fit. So I took the new bulb out of its casing and put it in the old casing. Put it in and the picture is better than originally, but I have a high pitch buzzing coming from the bulb area that is blasting over the tv sound.

Any ideas?

If the new bulb wasn't specifically made for your model of TV or maybe had a revision difference, it could be a completely different voltage maybe?

It could be getting too much juice making it squeal.

The guy on ebay said it was made for my tv, but the new casing was a hair smaller. The bulb base had rounded edges instead of squared off so I had to grind it down to fit in the old casing. I really don't want to spend $150 for a bulb from mitsubishi!

If the new bubl is 100W or 150W instead of an 180W would it cause the buzzing issue? Literally it is ear piercing loud!

Um ok wtf?? I turn the tv off, leave to grab something to eat, and turn it on when I get back. The picture is back to normal and the buzzing is gone so I guess the tv had to reset itself or something.

Seems like the issue is fixed for now and hopefully the buzzing doesn't return!

What part# did you use 915p061010
and what number replacement,
Yes you have a option just lamp or Lampand housing
its ok to make it fit but you just need a good replacement.
I use OEM only because working with warranty companys
Its best with mits but a philips lamp is ok.. PHI684 180W
Encompass.com if needed.

The fact that you pushed on the inside connector probably push it back
if so you will have to get behind the Lamp cage and reseat it,then
push lamp and connector together.
maybe remove lamp and use a bright flashlite
and inspect the connector..see if its pushed back and not.
And the alignment of the connector on the lamp housing.

Make sure the The Lead wire connected to the lamp in the lamp housing
is tight..
If all is good then try another lamp Or ballast would be a suspect next.
The colorwheel makes a whinning noise when bad.
