I was fishing with a guy earlier this year who sells machine tools, and he mentioned that they don't really troubleshoot like they used to. In fact, he said, they have several oscilloscopes sitting around that they haven't used in years. I said that I knew what he could do with them
Friday he dropped two off, on the condition that I take them both, and not return them. I checked them out today, and they both work great! This is the one I'm keeping, a Tektronix 465B:
That's The Arcade Fire on the scope. Here's the other one, an HP 1707B:
The HP works but has about a half-dozen broken or missing knobs, and the probe that came with it appears to be bad. It won't win any beauty contests, but if anyone wants to do some O-scope learnin', I'll send it to the first person willing to pay actual shipping costs. It weighs about 30 pounds. If you need specs, here's a manual.
Here's the scope that I'm replacing, a DeVry scope, I assume from the technical college. I paid two bucks for it. It works, in the way that a Crescent wrench works for changing a starter.
