I'm wondering what the original price an operator would pay for these games back in their decade...

1) Pacman (class, we all know it)
2) Super GT (Sega twin racer)

I saw some lease plan for Super GT which made be think the game must have cost $8000 or so. Was a Pacman $3000? (I have no idea).

My magazine collection ends in 1996, but the december 1996 playmeter has an advertisement listing deluxe drivers. A sega rally twin is listed for $13,995 ,Ridge Racer 33' is listed for $6,995, and a virtual racer deluxe is listed for $5,500. My guess is the lease price might be the 2nd selling of the game, or near the end of the production.

The first pacman price i can find is from december 1981 ( a year after it was first shown) for $2495. There is also one listed as "used" for $2195. I suspect when it was new and really hot operators paid much much more then the listed price.

Pacman is in line with what I expected, no idea Super GT was so expensive!

Thanks for looking, Matt. Sounds like you have a nice archive of older mags!

I wish i knew how much a pacman went for the first couple of months it was out. I'd bet it was double or maybe even triple the price it went for a couple of months later, but the only facts i have are off the advertisements. It's weird that we only spend about 10% of the new price for games, where as many hobbies its closer to the original price or more to buy a collectible.

Ive been very lucky with my playmeter collection, and have "most" of them. Unfortunately the bulk of the ones im missing are from the golden age,. I think i have them all from 1987-1996., and probably about 60-75% before then. Just need to get my Replay collection up to snuff, i currently have about 4 magazines, hehe.

Nice collection! Thanks again. I need to try and get a few vintage mags.

I have a lot of the receipts from new games I bought back in the 80's when I operated.
I did pay $2895 for a new Gauntlet, $4295 for a MKII, $1345 for a Blasteroids (closeout)
Neo Geos were $2995 w/2 carts included. I bought 3 of these.

If I can remember prices on more games I bought I'll post again.

Fun fact: Virtual Ons used to cost $8000 new. One of the reasons it never hit mainstream, I guess.
