So- I am converting pacman plus to pacman -

DO I go with an original (slightly beat marquee) or repro from Phoenix arcade? cost is essentially the same

The cab is solid , original but no perfect by any means -def good enough for me

I'd take a guide from the state of the rest of the cab. If it has some battle scars, maybe go with original. A brand new minty-looking marquee on an otherwise-weathered cabinet might look odd.

pics added-
I like your thought to match condition

yah why get some crap repro... no lack of real ones around

Took me ten minutes of looking to find an original replacement for mine a few years ago

new stuff on old machines looks dumb IMO

He's not talking about a crap repro though

Since you are not doing a full restore, then why not just keep the original so it matches the condition of the rest of the machine?

If you decide to do a full restore, then buy Phoenix's repo, and sell the original marquee to someone that wants an original.

original marquee ordered and on the way ! thanks

I was thinking about taping off the CPO art, sanding the black paint and repainting with spray paint... bad idea? or yeah that'll work idea?

I know this has been done with some success. Obviously, it won't be perfect, but it will look nicer. My Pac cabaret had it done from the previous owner and you couldn't tell if I didn't mention it.

Magic eraser and some simple green and light buffing will clean the CP up nicely. Just go easy so you don't remove the artwork and wipe clean immediately. You can remove the screws and bolts and wire wheel them (paint black if you want). Allow to dry thoroughly and tape off the CPO. Sand/wire wheel the metal and repaint. It will look great and cost you about $5.
