Original Ms Pacman board playing fast?

That depends. Does yours have the daughter card that is attached with a ribbon cable? Hacks exist that make the board play Ms. Pac-Man using extra chip sockets (installed as part of the hack) and a different ROMset. In that case, you do not have the daughter board and it plays speed up mode.

The only difference between a stock Ms Pac board and one that plays fast is the data that's contained on eprom 6F. It would be really hard to notice whether or not the board is all original without knowing what data is contained on that chip. Honestly, you could erase that chip, reprogram it and put it back on the board, and voila, you have original hardware running the speed up hack.

Changing the program code on 6F is pretty easy if you have an eprom programmer and UV eraser handy.

All,

Without the chip, has anyone experienced their original Ms Pacman playing fast?

Yes the members are correct regarding 6F, also to note do your ghosts change back too quickly? If so you likely have soldered pads together, just desolder them and you will be fine.

"There are 2 small solder pads near the DIP switch bank, right next to it is resistor pack RM6, the 2 pads are located just past the end of RM1 (by DIP switch 8) see if they are jumpered"

go to my blog wwww.guscade.com , click on Ms. Pacman and scroll to the very bottom, you will see a picture of the solder that you might have that's causing the ghosts to be changing back too fast. That's if Ms. Pac is moving at a normal speed but the ghosts seem to be changing back quickly. No difficulty settings exist via dip switches, but that was a way to make the game more difficult.

There are harware hacks to speed the game up too. I think it just speeds the clock up. I used to see it every so often but have not run across one with it for a while now. It is more of a "fair" speedup since it speeds up everything, not just your character.
If the difficulty pads are shorted it wont really play faster but the ghosts move a little faster and change back much quicker.

Results are in...

Spent some time today looking at my Ms Pacman Machine inside and out. Upon further review, my upright has the famous 6F chip. So...I want to purchase and install the original chip.

I'm assuming I take the 6F chip out and place the original chip via flat screwdriver?

Is my 6F assumption true according to my pic?

Tim
