Original Ms. Pac-man joystick to multi CP adapter plate?

So, I am restoring my original Ms. Pac-man cocktail cabinet and I decided I wanted to add a multi board. My plan was to use all the original parts (joysticks, 1p/2p buttons) and not modify the original control panels so I got a set of multi 9" control panels and overlays from arcadeshop.

Now the problem is I want to use the original joysticks and the new control panel doesn't have mounting holes in the correct locations. I could try and drill them out but they are square for the carriage bolts. Does anyone make an original large footprint to newer style footprint adapter plate? I have seen several plates out there but they all are aimed at newer joysticks in older cabs so no one mentions if they work the other way. Another problem is the p1/p2 buttons dont fit, but I can file away at the new CP holes and get them to fit.

CPOs (kinda ugly maybe I should just leave it black):

My original joystick footprint: ~ 5"W x 2 3/4" H

New control panel joystick footprint: ~ 2 3/4" W x 3 1/8" H

Potential Adapter Plates I know about:

Mike's arcade midway adapter plate:

After taking apart the control panels it looks like the original joysticks will not fit unless the top portion (with the plate) that screws in to the bottom portion of the joystick is taken off and replaced with another piece that is smaller. Otherwise its just too big and runs into the two buttons on the right.

I doubt there is an adapter that screws in directly to the bottom portion of the joystick with a newer smaller style footprint so now I guess I'm going to have to buy a new joystick. I think I want to stay with the leaf style but with the smaller footprint, anyone have any suggestions?

I think your best bet would be to find 2 4-way Wico leaf switch joysticks. That would give you the most original "feel". Otherwise, your only choice is to put the new style micro switch sticks in.....

Pay attention. Some of the newer joysticks will NOT fit into the cocktail without cab modification. The bottom of the joystick shaft hits the CP shelf and you won't be able to play.

Just pick up one of the red-ball-top joysticks that arcadeshop sells for the Pac replacements. it's microswitch, but you won't notice much...

Well I thought I'd post an update on this. I replaced the CP and everything is installed and working!

I ended up replacing the joystick with the REPLACEMENT JOYSTICK FOR MS PACMAN / GALAGA & MIDWAY GAMES (JS-MP) from twistedquarter.com

I have to say I really do like the leaf style joystick better than the new one with microswitches. Does anyone know of a leaf style joystick that matches the newer footprint of the JS-MP?

Also I'm trying to find carriage bolts and screws in black oxide for the control panel. The pac-man.com/twobits replacement parts site says that the original bolts and screws were black oxide and not chrome/silver. But I can't order from there because there's a 25$ minimum shipping and I don't need anything else.

Take your old bolts and get a can of black Rust-o-leum appliance epoxy and you will be set.

I've never been satisfied with painting bolts, always comes off fairly quickly. If that appliance epoxy is magic I might give it a shot but I'd rather use the oxide ones since they seem to last a lot longer in my experience.

There is just nothing quite like the original pacman joystick. I have made adapter plates for the old pacman cabinet for the newer joysticks, but there is no reason you can not use this same adapter to go new cabinet to old joystick. my adapter plate is flat, unlike the ones you find elsewhere that have a bend in them. It will only require that you cut the 8-32 bolts to an exact length (so it does not hit the original pacman joystick) and then use some 1/4" washers as spacers between the original joystick and the adapter plate (this provides clearance for the nuts on the blots that are mounting the adapter plate to the control panel). Each 1/4" washer provides 1/16" gap, so one at each corner should be enough since the pacman joystick has an offset as well.
