original defender joy stick ?

Nope, I didn't. Because I didn't know there was such a thing as a Taito Defender cocktail.

My bad. Happy to be called out on it.

Always good to read back a bit to see what all the talk is about, even with the extra Altered Beast credits. I might have seen it before and definitely forgot about it so was kinda nice to have the tread bumped.

Altered Beast?

Honestly, when I first saw that the thread was from 2011, I thought he was more looking for a person, not a joystick. So I didn't bother to read the whole thread.

Wooo, thanks for bumping this thread - never knew that type of joystick existed. I wonder how it plays. I know some die hards hate when people say this but stargate and defender controls are way too much. I know its part of the 'charm' of the game. I've always found it interesting that Jarvis came up with the best controls (robotron) then the worst controls (stargate, defender). what the fook.

Somewhere there's an interview with Jarvis where he basically said something to the effect of, "We didn't have research or focus groups, we didn't ask anyone what they thought would work well for controls. We just layed out the buttons where they seemed to fit my hands."

I have to disagree. I believe the unique controls for Defender/Stargate are perfect for this particular side-scrolling type game and its flow and requirement for maneuvering (stick and buttons) and special defense mechanisms (more buttons). The ergonomic placement of the controls on the CP works well for most players once learned.

In fact, the controls define these two games.

I hear you man, I know people are at one with the controls who get into these games and would not have it any other way. I have a stargate, I love the game itself but for me I'm really bad at slapping the inviso and smartbomb buttons, forget about hyperspace all together.

I'm comfortable with the other controls. And for the record I'm 1/2 Asian and have the longest fingers known to man..

Maybe your fingers are TOO long.

Try cutting off a knuckle or two.
