I got this joystick from my repairer a while back , he claims it is the original Defender joystick , it is 2 way up and down , and the red button is rigged for reverse , but on the klov site , the original cabs pictures show just a normal joystick , also i have a shot of the rear of it , and the company that distributed most games in Australia , leasure and allied industries , i noticed on the Klov site , some games were made by the allied and leasure company , wonder if it was the same Co , ? {Hopefully these pics turn out ] .

None of that is original to Williams Defender. The original Williams Defender joystick has leaf switches and looks like this on the base:

i guess thats a way to eliminate a button on that small cocktail control panel, still looks like no fun to grip or even use the button when its necessary to do so

Hell I can't use the reverse button any better on the USA game, so I guess it wouldn't make any difference. I might as well need to press it with my toe.

Didn't catch that. Looks like the Taito cocktail Defender joystick...

Dam !! thats it !! , it Is a taito cocktail joystick , thankyou for this picture , there were defenately alot of taito games here in oz [ cabs ] , im not good at defender ,but even i did notice that sharp angle from the small stem up to the wider part rubbed on my fingers , and if defender was originally mostly push buttons except up and down , then i must go to original . Some Asteroids have a joystick ,when it was originally all buttons , and i wouldnt play it on a joy ,,,

Hell I can't use the reverse button

whats the matter ?
are you missing your left thumb ?

it's in almost the perfect place

i think most peoples' criticism with DEFENDER is because they cant play it/dont know how to play it, not a game problem

if one cant catch all ten guys on your ship with your first man and then go baiter hunting, then there's no reason for one to be playing it anyway

If you're pushing the reverse button with your thumb, what are you holding onto the joystick with?

See, I"m a primate mammal. We have opposable thumbs. We use those, and our other fingers, to grasp things. Therefore, when I grasp the joystick, I'm using my opposable thumb.

Do you have two thumbs on your left hand?

if one cant catch all ten guys on your ship with your first man and then go baiter hunting, then you need waaaaay more practice

sorry man. this is what i should have typed, no offense intended

lol

i'm holding the joystick between my index and middle finger with some palm helping too

thumb is "free" and ready to hit the reverse button at a moments notice, which in many circumstances is super duper important
my reverse button needs cleaning. nothing worse than a reverse button that doesnt work 100%

once you get good at DEFENDER, i cant think of a better/more fun game

Any one know RetOmantic in this tread? Thanks

He hasn't logged in here in five years. (Last login Dec 7, 2015).

There are maybe half a dozen other members here from Australia, who are active. (Maybe a few more than that.) I don't know if the database here will let you search by location, but you could try, then check their last login date to see if they're active, and then PM them, as it's unlikely they'll all see this thread. But if anyone would know, it would probably be one of them.

Why are you asking?

Yeah, nobody's going to know that, I think.

That stick isn't an original Defender stick. Honestly, I have no idea what it's from, as I've never seen another. It almost looks custom made.

Are you looking for an original Defender stick, or that one specifically? If you want an original stick, they look like this. I used to sell them with the ZeroPlay kits, but don't have any at the moment. However I think ArcadeShop and elsewhere have repro parts for original sticks, that would let you piece one together.

(Also FYI, you should edit your profile to display your location in your posts, as most folks here do. Most folks here like to know where people are from, for doing deals, finding games, etc. It's under your account settings. )

Hey Andrew thanks for the heads up on the account settings, Just done that.

It is definitely a Taito Defender Joystick, I have possibly the last standing cocktail that I am refurbishing over here in Aus.

Ahhh, interesting. Now that's one I did NOT know!

Very cool. Yeah, that's a rare bird over here. Best of luck trying to find one. Looks pretty cool though.

Thanks for the lesson! (I'm a bit of a joystick geek, so I love this esoteric stuff.)
