I do not usually toss around the word grail, but a working Berzerk Bat Stick for my Berzerk has been on my want list for years.
Who here has one, non working, and it is just sitting collecting dust, wico red ball top installed?

Mr. Joel West of Chasing Ghosts fame ("you can teach a monkey to play box pattern berzerk") recently bought me one and shipped it out to my surprise. Signed and all. (bah......Non Working)

I am planning on documenting all my findings and posting it here for reference.

Now if I could only find my damn camera....

Wait, what? You mean "installed instead", right?

I've got an original Berzerk bat stick sitting on a shelf. Just the stick, no wiring, switches, anything else...

ps. Why didn't you like Chasing Ghosts?

Even though I do not see nor hang out with Ben Gold, Todd Rogers, Mark Robichek etc.. more than once or twice a year, I still speak to them regularly on the phone and consider them friends.
I did not care for the hatchet job they did on these guys to make them look pathetic.
I know it was to solidify the stereotype of the classic gamer, but not everyone fits the bill.
After getting to know many of the main players, some absolutely do, but the majority do not. At least not the friends I have made since the two major video game films came out.

I made a custom base with leaf switches for mine. Works pretty good and I don't have to worry about it breaking.

For sure Richie.....gotta love the Opto-Bat! And very challenging to play a game with one.....

Just currious now, what makes it more challenging to play with the bat? I just assumed it would be better to play with the bat.

Everyone who seems to play mine......who either owns a Wico Frenzy/Berzerk......always comments it takes more effort to move to the 'end stop' for each direction as opposed to the Wico which you can seemingly crank around. I notice that on a Wico you can spin the stick in a circle and shoot like an MF in all directions......but find it difficult to do that with the opto-bat.

Dunno.....play one and see what you think. Always similar comments when somebody plays my machine.

And I love the story when talking with Alan that original handle came from an 'industrial flushing valve' assembly.....and them testing it by hitting it with a baseball bat.....makes me chuckle as a Sr. Mechanisms Engineer.....great stuff.....

Yeah, nice write-up, thanks.
I have an original, but I also have the usual acid damage. Been sitting in the garage for too many years now...*sigh*

IMO you end up walking into walls a lot when trying to fire from the stand still position.

I got to see Richie's Berzerk 'total restoration' in person.....and it is a beautiful machine! And just icing on the cake with the opto-bat in there.......
