How do you guys organize you spare components like resistors, caps,ic's and transistors.I never buy just one of anything,i figure if i need one now,i may need one later.Doing this i have accumulated quite a stash of components.Unfortunately my organizational skills suck.My system is a big box,all parts are in the packaging they came in, like a antistatic bag or a tube,so they are labeled at least.I picture an organizer like for screws, alot of little drawers. The problem i see there is just the 74 series ic's would require a shit load or drawers lol.Leaning towards some sort of compartments to group similar items, keep an inventory sheet with what is in each location. At least this way i can see what i have, and only have to dig through a small pile instead of this box.Just figured i would toss this out there and see if there is a better way to proceed before i make a move on it.

agreed here is my workstation and parts containers
(sorry kinda messy atm been elbow deep in repairs all week )

Yep. I use the ones I pickup from the Container Store (except for the middle one which I found at a Goodwill), and hang them on the wall above the bench to increase bench space. Almost all of them are full and labeled, and I need more. Caps are on the bottom as I use them the most.

Here's my desk at work:

Yep. Mine are like Mod's except that most are yellow and I got them at Fry's. The oddball one I got for $4 at HFT. Sorry no pictures, my work area is such a mess I'd break my camera ...:D:eek:

An assortment of drawer type bins it is.I doubt i'll ever accumulate as much as it looks that you guys did lol,but it would be nice to keep what i have organized.
Thanks guys

I said that twice, first when I was accumulating parts to fix some pinball boards and then again when I started accumulating parts for boards and then again with monitor chassis and then .......

I still have a box of ziplock bags full of oddball discrete logic parts I got in an auction on Ebay. They aren't commonly used parts so I haven't given them drawers, yet. I need to go to Fry's or HFT and get a couple more cabinets....:D

The pic I posted was from 2007, had a house load of fresh kittens that were just learning to get into everything. If I'd left anything on the bench they would have eaten it!

They'd already been dancing on the shelf I keep all my spare boards and larger parts on. Had come into the room more than once and found the power supplies had cascaded down all over the floor.

Cat-haters no need to comment. :D Cats rock, end of discussion. :D

I don't love cats but even cat haters can't say anything negative about that picture. Cute! :)

Mine is pretty much like everyone else's :

And I've got an old Coke bottle wooden box for the pinball bulbs:
