We might need to do this at work for a couple monitors with bad flybacks that aren't available to replace. I know of two places to order - Alva Amusement and 8liners.

Now, 8liners lists $65, but it doesn't show where to mention the number of pins and the yoke measurements like it used to, unless it does it in checkout? Or do I need to call?

As for Alva, I guess I just pick a 20" Low Impedance or High Impedance chassis, depending on my yoke. What is the cutoff for Low vs High? And I assume it means on the vertical yoke, right? They also don't list any prices on their website, or have a checkout, so I assume you have to call them also? What is their price?

Thanks for any info...

16 ohms or less on the vertical yoke winding is considered "low impedance".

30 to 60 ohms on the vertical yoke winding is considered "high impedance".

Both 8liners and Alva sell the Wei-ya line of replacement chassis.

There are several models. Some require an isolation transformer and some do not, depending on the model number.

Alva's prices are considerably lower than 8liners. Alva removed the prices from their website so now I think you call them to order one. I believe the 19-20" chassis that required isolation were around $50 whereas 8liners wants $69 for the same thing.

Nice... just checked out Alva and they have chassis's for CRT's larger than 27"... :) Now I'm a happy boy!

Need help in Austin!

Hey, I live in Austin and need some help! I have a empty Q*Bert machine that I want to turn into a 60 in 1 Icade jamma set up. I also have a 19" Zenith tube tv. Is there any to use this tv in my set up? It has a 10 pin neck and the verticle ohms measure 6.0. I am going to need a bunch of help on this one. I restored a dedicated Double Dragon machine but that one only needed the cabinet restored and a new pcb. Thanks!

Looks like you could use either an 8-Liners or Alva chassis (as far as I know they are the same board). Your impedance looks low for the small tube, so you might have to add a resistor to bring it up. I'm sure they'll let you know tho.

Good luck!

I used one of these the other day. Other than having to splice in the yoke connector (the tube had a strange one) and changing the video connector of the cab to the weird one this uses, then cutting off the 220vac corded plug they had connected and putting a molex on it for the power connector, then drilling new holes in the frame to mount it - whew - it was a piece of cake.

The only issue I had was that the brightness seemed to fluctuate. It'd turn it on and it would be too bright, so I;d adjust it down. next time I turn it on, it's a little dark, so I turn it up. next time it's too bright again....

For the most part, I did that (except for the video connector but this was used in a multicade with a new harness anyway).

I guess the chassis is self-sensing as to the operating voltage input? it says it works from 90-230vac, and I saw no selection jumpers.

Any thoughts as to the brightness issues I mentioned?
