Orange Sherbet Gravitar

I find the best way to do corner or control panel edge replacement is to biscuit join an over sized piece to the area and then use a template to router the new piece to shape. It guarantees that you'll have a perfect fit with a minimum of sanding. I'm going to do exactly that on a Star Wars cab this weekend, and I'll post pics.

This was my original plan, but my router bit has the bearing on the bottom. So I wasn't quite sure how to get it to workout.

Just a small update. I read about Frizz doing this with a Battle Zone. Bought an exacto knife and a ruler at Staples and started cutting away.

I can't take credit for the idea... it was my friend Dan (Quicksilver) and his Battlezone... I simply helped out a little.

My plans are to paint the sides white again, and the front black. For the t-molding, I was thinking about doing something a little pimped out and going with red.

Just catching up here. I've been busy on this project, and often forget to take pictures.

I finished up the bondo and sanding, then masked off the side art. For the sides, I used a rustoleum gloss white. It looks very similar to the vinyl that it replaced.

The front of the cab was black laminate so I was able to strip the paint and happily the laminate looks great. I masked off the area around the speaker grills and sprayed those with satin black just to freshen them up.

I made a new back door by copying my Space Duel door. Then installed a cam lock, and reproduction back door sheet.

There was a good deal of overspray from the orange paint that had been done. I used a magic eraser and simple green to take care of that.

The Marquee brackets were sanded and painted, the weather stripping replaced and Marquee cleaned and reinstalled.

I wanted to do something different with the t-molding and settled on red. I'm thinking yellow or maybe even green would've been a better choice. Anyway I'm happy with the results up to this point.

I didn't do much this weekend. But I found time enough to make a replacement paper bezel. Fortunately I had the one from my space duel to copy. I made this with illustration paper, which was almost too thick. Here are a few pics.

The game looks beautiful in the pictures. I must say though, I have never been much for arts and crafts so I am blown away by the job you did on the monitor shroud. I need one for my open face battlezone and I may attempt making one after seeing this.

Wow - I agree with everyone else - great job on that cabinet and shroud work!

Yeah - that looked like some voodoo magic to me.

Ha! This actually made me laugh out loud!

Thanks for the kind words.

The bezel really IS easy to do. I made two of these a few years ago for a Cyberball and was surprised at the results. http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=67250&highlight=Paper+bezel As long as you have the original to go by, it's a snap. You just have to lightly cut the back edge on each bend. So around the outside edges, score the front, and on the valley folds score the back of each corner. That allows it to bend in the right places. Maybe there's a better way, but this is what worked for me.

Just looked at my old post and it looks like tta583 gave me the idea for this.
