Personally I would leave it alone if it was done well, but I guess it would be what do you prefer better Ms Pac or Galaga or both like the reunion cabs..

I would break out the hair dryer and heat up that laminate and peel it off. Then use goof off on any remaining adhesive. Might be some pretty decent Pac art under there.

BTW: What is Dark Mist? Doesn't seem to be in the KLOV list.

what to do

i want as little work as possible. so i was going to paint black go with galaga or leave it or full ms pac or pac stickers. it is pacman under as you can see yellow with backdoor off.

Don't do Galaga, do Galaxian (White), at least the cabinet is the same shape. You think it would be that hard to take off the laminate?

The best part about peeling off the woodgrain is that it will look original and not cost you $300.

I think the dark mist is cigarette smoke residue mixed with dust. Do you smoke? If you do, then you probably can't smell it. If you don't, open up the inside. It may smell a bit like musty old cigarettes.

It's pretty common to find the dark residue inside these machines. Many come from bars or restaurants and smoking wasn't as socially unacceptable in the 80's as it is today.

My new red tent is nice and gooey inside. I'm still not quite sure how I'm going to clean it.

I did that once. Sample pic:

Are you sure you don't want to peel?

Look what was under this wood grain!

The woodgrain protected the artwork from fading!

ok this stuff does not peal pryed it up no artwork tons of glue and this stuff is thick like you would find on a countertop!

Wow that sucks! I guess your only option is to paint. BTW don't sand that material without a respirator and only outside, it is hazardous to breath. Also it is really hard to get paint to stick to it, if you don't want to do a lot of work, either leave woodgrain, or put on black vinyl.

If it were me, I would remove the melamine and sand the cabinet down and repaint. But I would re-stencil Pac-Man art work too.

If you don't mind black vinyl do that.
