Hey guys, I need to replace the rubber cross on one of the Optical 49 way joysticks on an Arch Rivals game and I was wondering if there are any right or wrong ways to do it? Will i need to make any adjustments to it after I install the new one?
Thanks,

-Dave

Here's how i do it. Other people might do it differently.

1: Remove the joystick (though you could do it in place, but it would be hard)
2: Use a screwdriver or something to push the clips off that hold the spider on
3: Accidentally stab your hand trying to remove them
4: Curse loudly as one goes flying across the room
5: Search for clip for about an hour
6: Give up search
7: Try to find the correct size clip in those little bins at the hardware store
8: Find one with correct inner dimension but they are a little too big on the outer dimension
9: Place the spider on the pegs and the tit sticking out on the joystick end
10: Replace the clips
12: Stab hand again putting clips on
13: Have another clip go flying off, but thankfully you bought extras (wait? did i leave that out?)
14: Replace joystick
15: Have a cold one and play arch rivals

Sounds like the appropriate thing to call them!

I did forget a couple of steps
14.1: Find out harness does not reach the connector because you installed the joystick 180 degrees from the way it was supposed to go
14.2: Remove joystick
14.3: Reinstall joystick the correct direction

To answer your unanswered question, no there are no adjustments. Either you put it on right and everything works, or you did it the KC way. :D

Update on this:
I replace the part and everything worked great for about a week, then the new rubber cross broke. I just replaced it with a new one but now there's a new issue. The stick will only register Left, Right, Down and Down??? For some reason when you move UP it registers down, not up. Any suggestions? Do these go bad? Adjustments? Thanks.
